Summary

This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Office of Legislation, Congressional Affairs Group.

As a Health Insurance Specialist, GS-0107-12, you will perform reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating proposed legislation, regulations and other administrative actions for CMS programs.

Duties

  • Conducts legislative, economic, and policy analyses related issues for the assigned program area(s).
  • Anticipates and addresses congressional inquiries on complex policies and issues and appropriately handles sensitive information.
  • Develops a thorough understanding of problems and elevate them to the attention of management when appropriate.
  • Monitors all congressional legislative activity for assigned areas of responsibility.

In order to qualify for the GS-12, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include:

  1. Reviewing and analyzing legislation and policies regarding Medicare, Medicaid, Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) or private health insurance programs;
  2. Producing written documents for management, including briefing documents, reports, issue papers, responses to the Government Accountability Office/Office of the Inspector General or decision memoranda regarding the Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP or private health insurance programs; AND
  3. Briefing leadership for congressional meetings regarding Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP or private health insurance programs.
