Senior Plan Administrator

Merkley Retirement Consultants

(Remote)

Logo for Merkley Retirement Consultants

Job Overview: We are a small, “lifestyle” boutique firm with a work-hard, play-hard culture. Forget the corporate red tape, internal politics, and lack of career growth. We offer something else entirely—a 100% remote environment with an unlimited PTO schedule, and the ability to scale your pay based on “plan ownership”.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan Administration: Oversee the day-to-day operations of multiple retirement plans including participant enrollment, contribution processing, loan administration, and distribution processing.
  • Compliance: Ensure all plans comply with ERISA, IRS, and DOL regulations. Stay updated with changes in retirement legislation and implement necessary adjustments to plan operations.
  • Annual Testing & Reporting: Prepare IRS Form 5500/SAR, audit packages, MRDs, financial statements, participant census, and required compliance tests (ADP/ACP, Top Heavy, 402g, 410(b), 415, etc.)
  • Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate records of plan activities, participant data, investments, and transactions. Prepare and review plan documents, amendments, and summary annual reports.
  • Client Interaction: Serve as the primary contact for plan sponsors and participants, answering inquiries, resolving issues, and providing education on plan benefits and options.
  • Audits: Assist with annual plan audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations to auditors.
  • Education and Outreach: Conduct educational sessions for participants on retirement planning, investment options, and understanding their benefits.
  • Project Management: Coordinate with internal teams (like legal, compliance, and investment) and external partners (such as custodians, record-keepers, and TPAs) to ensure seamless plan management.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years in retirement plan administration or a similar role within the retirement industry.
  • Proficiency in using ftWilliams plan administration software.
  • Strong understanding of ERISA, IRS, and DOL regulations related to retirement plans.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, including experience managed 50-100+ retirement plans simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong commitment to client service excellence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years in retirement plan administration or a similar role within the retirement industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • Retirement plan administration certifications such as Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), Certified Retirement Plan Associate (CRPA), Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA), Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA) or similar.
  • Experience as the main point of contact for plan sponsors and participants.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary (starting at $75,000 - $120,000 - DOE) and annual performance raises.
  • 401(k) plan with 6% company match, dollar for dollar, and 100% vested day one.
  • 100% remote working position.
  • Unlimited PTO policy – own your schedule based on your plans.
  • Tuition reimbursement program to pursue education or industry certifications, up to $5,250/year.
