3(16) Compliance Consultant

We are looking for a full-time 3(16) Compliance Consultant either fully remote within the US or on-site in our Shrewsbury, New Jersey headquarters.

The 3(16) Compliance Consultant role is a position pertinent to the success of NPPG. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of ERISA, IRS, and DOL regulations and thrives on ensuring plans are managed in full compliance with federal requirements. This role involves managing compliance testing, annual filings, plan document updates, and client communications related to plan operations and corrections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and approve plan loans and distributions.
  • Perform and review contribution calculations and required compliance testing (including ADP, ACP, 410(b), 401(a)(4), and top-heavy)
  • Review and transmit IRS filings, including Forms 5500, 5558, and 5330.
  • Review and approve plan documents, amendments, participant notices and corrective actions.
  • Ensure plans sponsors follow the terms of the plan document, IRS, and Department of Labor (DOL) regulations.
  • Advise clients on plan design and recommend modifications to maintain compliance.
  • Collaborate directly with business owners, financial advisors, accountants, other professionals and internal teams to address inquiries and resolve plan-related issues promptly.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation for large plan audits.
  • Research complex plan administration issues and develop appropriate corrective action strategies.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in 401(k) plan administration with a focus on compliance and 3(16) fiduciary services.
  • Strong understanding of ERISA, IRS, and DOL regulations.
  • Experience with recordkeeping platforms and compliance testing software, preferably Relius.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MEPs/PEPs
  • ASPPA, NIPA and/or ERPA credentials
  • Bachelor's degree
