Department
Responsibilities
The Client Services team works directly with customers and clients of all kinds of businesses. Team members work closely with plan sponsors, partners, and participants to deliver responsive, knowledgeable,
and solutions-oriented support throughout the lifecycle of their retirement plans. Team members receive and respond to client or customer questions about properly using or accessing any information regarding their retirement plans as well as expectations
on meeting regulatory requirements.
Team members monitor and maintain the client relationship, receiving and processing client requests across the spectrum of annual plan administration and/or daily plan management topics. As a hub of the
organization, Client Service team members regularly collaborate with multiple departments to deliver excellent client care.
Role Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary consultant and
trusted advisor for assigned retirement plan clients, leading discussions related to plan administration, compliance, governance, operational challenges, and strategic plan objectives.
- Manage complex client issues, escalations, and service
initiatives through resolution while maintaining strong relationships with plan sponsors, advisors, auditors, attorneys, and other stakeholders.
- Identify client risks, opportunities, and emerging needs, and provide proactive recommendations that
support client goals, regulatory compliance, and operational effectiveness.
- Provide advanced consultation on retirement plan administration, ERISA requirements, IRS and DOL regulations, plan document interpretation, and complex operational
matters.
- Research, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues, operational failures, and compliance concerns, including developing and recommending appropriate correction strategies.
- Serve as a primary escalation resource and technical
subject matter expert for high-risk or non-routine client situations.
- Lead plan design consultations and recommend plan structure, amendments, and operational enhancements aligned with client objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Consult
on compliance testing, annual reporting, audits, fiduciary considerations, and regulatory obligations impacting retirement plans.
- Support and advise on complex events including plan mergers, acquisitions, conversions, terminations, spin-offs, and
other significant plan transactions.
- Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in designated retirement plan disciplines and serve as a technical resource for clients and internal teams.
- Develop technical resources, procedures, and
training materials while providing mentorship and technical guidance to team members.
- Review and provide guidance on complex client communications, recommendations, and technical deliverables to promote quality, accuracy, and
consistency.
- Identify root causes of service, compliance, and operational challenges and implement sustainable solutions that improve client and business outcomes.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to implement client solutions,
operational improvements, and strategic initiatives.
- Contribute to a positive team culture through collaboration, knowledge sharing, mentorship, and exemplification of company values.
Qualifications
- 6+ years
of retirement industry experience, with significant experience consulting on qualified retirement plans.
- Demonstrated expertise in defined contribution plan administration, compliance, and plan document interpretation.
- Demonstrated ability
to collaborate effectively with clients, business partners, and cross-functional teams. Advanced knowledge of ERISA, IRS, and Department of Labor retirement plan regulations.
- Experience consulting on complex retirement plan design, operational, and
compliance matters.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex situations and develop practical solutions.
- Experience researching technical retirement plan issues and communicating recommendations to
diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to independently manage high-value client relationships and complex service situations.
- Advanced proficiency in handling matters akin or aligned to project management, notably with internal and external
stakeholders.
- Advanced proficiency in retirement plan document analysis, amendment review, and operational application.
- ASPPA credentials strongly preferred (QKA, QPA, CPC, TGPC, APA, APR, or similar).
- Experience supporting plan
corrections, audits, plan conversions, mergers, acquisitions, or terminations preferred.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the
employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
- The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific
vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- The work environment is usually an indoor setting with infrequent exposure to outside elements. This
position requires less than 5% of travel.
- The person in this position occasionally needs to move about inside a home office environment to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office
productivity machinery such as a printer.
