In this role you’ll be responsible for managing the overall relationship with your assigned plan sponsors, ensuring that all necessary support is provided to the clients for the decision-making process as it relates to benefit planning, service delivery, compliance, and investment management; especially during periods of structural change.  You’ll also focus on strategically linking the needs and services of the plan sponsors to Wespath by relaying pertinent information to appropriate departments as the voice of the customer.

More specifically, in this role you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Positively represent Wespath and adopted or recommended plan designs to key client contacts, pension boards and other significant groups and influencers.
  • Provide internal and external customer plan sponsor relationship management; including building effective relationships and communication strategies, and displaying a thorough understanding of the plan rules and the retirement, health and welfare, and investment products.
  • Provide insight and technical expertise to new and existing clients undergoing structural change.
  • Conduct ongoing analysis of assigned plan sponsors consisting of the following steps:  1) understanding of the history, business, population and specific needs of plan sponsors;  2) reviewing plan sponsors' current benefits program elections, enrollment data, adequacy of benefits, compliance and training issues and provide comparisons against need and objectives;  3) partnering with plan sponsors to help understand financial impacts of their elections and/or changes to the plans; and 4) identifying ways in which the organization can support plan sponsors through existing or future products and services.
  • Assist Conferences in developing an annual funding plan for future benefit obligations.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field or equivalent work of experience.
  • 5 years of experience as a relationship manager in the employee benefits industry working with customers with plan assets greater than $10M or 5 years of experience as a United Methodist Church Conference Officer.
  • Knowledge of Defined Contribution, Defined Benefit, 401 (k) and/or 403 (b) Pension Plans, and investments.
  • Basic understanding of financial statements.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn about the polity, structure, and governance system of The United Methodist Church.
  • The ability to travel domestically up to 40% of the time on average, with peak seasonal times requiring more frequent travel. If working 100% remote, person needs to reside within an hour from a major airport.

Preferred Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Health and Welfare Plans.
  • Experience or knowledge of not-for-profit employee benefit plans.
