ERISA Consultant

Job Summary:  The ERISA Consultant is responsible for providing retirement plan compliance consulting and completing consulting projects and deliverables for our internal and external clients including IRS filings, corrections to operational and document errors, and serving as a resource both internally and externally to advisors, plan sponsors and other outside contacts as an ERISA compliance subject matter expert.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide periodic updates on ERISA related updates and regulatory guidance that may impact our plan sponsors and our internal processes and procedures
  • Prepare ERISA technical communications for internal and external use
  • Prepare government filings (VCP and Determination Letter filings) and review filings prepared by colleagues
  • Review of complex plan amendment issues
  • Assist with complex QDRO determinations, Controlled Group analysis, and other compliance projects
  • Review plan merger documents
  • Complete protected benefit and plan design reviews
  • Effectively collaborate with team members to facilitate team objectives
  • Answer complex retirement plan questions from document team, other internal staff, and external clients
  • Interact with business partners, sales consultants, team colleagues and other personnel as needed to answer ERISA compliance consulting questions and complete assigned projects by deadlines
  • Assist with special projects
  • Provide training on a variety of ERISA subjects related to qualified retirement plans including defined contribution, defined benefit, 403(b), and 457(b) plans
  • Assist with process development and engineering
  • Effectively prioritize projects to complete tasks with competing deadlines

Management Responsibilities

  • None

Required Education, Experience and Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and industry experience in related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years ERISA regulatory compliance experience
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret general business and technical procedures or governmental regulations
  • Able to respond effectively to questions from internal and external clients
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and PC skills

Preferred (but not required) education or skills for this role

  • Preferred Designations from ASPPA or NIPA
