Overview:
In coordination with the Association's Assistant General Counsel - Employee Benefits ("AGC"), the role will regularly provide legal advice and counsel to managers and staff of the
Association's National Employee Benefits Administration department ("NEBA") and, as required, to managers and staff of other Association departments, particularly the Human Resources department ("HR"). The primary focus of this role
will be the design, drafting, implementation, administration, reporting and
disclosure regarding qualified defined contribution and defined benefit programs. The successful candidate should also expect that he or she could be called upon to address
legal issues arising under ERISA, the tax code and other laws impacting employee benefits with respect to a broad range of employee retirement and welfare benefit programs.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Serve as a legal resource supporting NEBA operations, including both strategic and tactical counseling to NEBA's department managers regarding NEBA operational issues and practices. This goal will specifically include serving as legal support to NEBA's 401(k) Program Team and National Retirement ProgramTeam regarding compliance matters. Because this is a responsibility the successful candidate will share with the AGC, it is expected that the successful candidate will act collaboratively with the AGC regarding their shared duties to support NEBA line staff. As directed by the AGC, serve as a legal resource supporting the Association's HR and Finance departments regarding employee benefits matters. Upon request, perform research for and provide strategic counseling to the AGC regarding employee benefits matters within the scope of her responsibilities.
