In this highly visible role, this leader will have direct responsibility for The Standard’s Retirement Plan distribution and market development strategy. As a dynamic, change ready sales leader, you will design and deliver innovative customer-driven solutions to accelerate profitability in the recordkeeping space. By engaging the hearts and minds of your team and through strategic collaboration, you will continuously drive growth. As a senior member of the leadership team, you will work with key stakeholders, including senior members in Actuarial, Product, Operations, Service, Information Technology, and the Executive Management Committee.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Drive the team’s refreshed sales strategy with a laser focus on customer needs and existing and emerging market opportunities.   
  • Deliver leadership and coaching to existing management staff, and develop diverse talent into the organization to improve The Standard’s bench-strength and leadership pipeline.  
  • Promote and demonstrate an agile mindset and courage through change management. 
  • Support and and partner with the operations and product leaders to empower efficient processes to develop and deliver products and customer solution.
  • Monitor profitability and risk profile of the existing block of business and make strategic recommendations for pricing changes or other actions as needed.  
  • Promote the adoption of lean principles and champion performance improvement metrics. 
  • Enable and foster positive and effective relationships with business partners at all levels to prioritize and align effort and resources to business needs. 
  • Act as a coach, culture champion, change agent, trusted advisor, providing guidance and direction on an ad-hoc basis across topics such as leadership, development of employees, distillation of strategy into both near and long-term objectives. 
  • Participate with the VP, Asset Management Group in the annual budget planning process, planning quarterly strategic leadership off-sites and developing the change management strategy.
  • Be a steward of our business by ensuring that risk and financial controls for business systems and supporting infrastructure are effective and efficient.

Essential Qualifications  

  • 10+ years of sales success in financial services/insurance industries, including past selling experience. 
  • 5+ years of sales team management experience, with experience leading a team of sales managers. 
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain effective business partnerships and achieve desired outcomes in matrixed organizations.  
  • Successful track record of planning and leading complex process improvement projects in a services organization.
  • Critical thinking, adaptability, and strategic solution planning in the face of fast-moving business challenges. 
  • Demonstrated ability to align department goals to support strategic divisional or corporate objectives, lead implementation of systems to support those goals, continuously improve performance, and effectively lead an organization at the forefront of change management.  
  • Experience in a metrics-driven sales organization and ability to coach your managers and sales representatives to higher performance. 
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. MBA preferred. 
  • Travel required.

You will be required to transfer or obtain a Series 6 and 26, or the Series 7 and 24, as well as the Series 63 within 90 days of your date of hire, as well as a life insurance license. These licenses are required as part of your position. If you do not already hold these licenses, it is our expectation that you obtain the requisite licenses as a condition of employment. The Standard will provide study materials and five paid study days within thirty days of your date of hire and pay fees associated with the licensing process.
