Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Manager Compensation – North America. This position can be remote/residence based or ideally located at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pa. or region office based in Houston, TX.

As part of the Global Total Rewards Community of Expertise (COE), this position manages the compensation programs for employees in the North America region.  The primary responsibility is to manage, analyze, design, implement compensation programs that support the strategic goals of the businesses in the region.  Aligned with the Total Rewards philosophy and framework and global job grading structure, the pay programs need to be both internally equitable and externally competitive. 

The incumbent will provide Compensation leadership guidance to local HR partners so that they in turn effectively execute contemporary rewards in support of their business units and functions.  The position works closely with Rewards COE, HR Partners, Business/Functional Managers to ensure that all aspects of Compensation in North America are aligned to business goals and global rewards philosophy and drive high performance culture.


This position is accountable for the following end results:

  1. Provide leadership and guidance to local HR Partners in Compensation and Rewards enabling them to execute their function effectively.
  2. In accordance with global pay strategies, develop, implement, and manage all aspects of incentive and rewards programs that motivate employee behavior and align to business strategy, company’s employment value proposition and Company’s higher purpose.
  3. With the business, design and administer sales and business development incentives to execute company’s growth strategy.
  4. Manage/conduct Job Evaluation process within the North America region.  Coach and train HR Partners and Managers on Rewards framework, programs, and processes.  Ensure statutory and regulatory compliance and pay equity within pay programs and practices.
  5. Manage rewards planning cycle for base salary, salary structure, short term/long term incentives, promotion, and salary adjustments in alignment with global compensation process.
  6. Partnering with HR Partner, develop compensation packages for attracting, retaining, and motivating employees and managers within the North America region and Corporate Headquarters locations.
  7. Provide Compensation subject matter expertise and deliverables for merger & acquisition integrations.
  8. Perform annual competitive market assessment, benchmark pay and rewards practices and industry and market trends.  Share data and analysis to inform pay design/decisions.
  9. Develop Rewards Communications & Rewards Training.


  • 10 years of experience in Total Rewards with a strong background in Compensation. 
  • Prior experience working with HRIS platforms for core compensation/advanced compensation (SAP HR, Workday) required.   
  • Must have a strong analytical mindset and ability to provide data-driven recommendations. 
  • Strategic thinker with strong consultative mindset is critical for success in this role as well as a hands-on approach.   
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business degree preferred. 
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications Excel, Power Point, Share Point, Word.
