The Pension Rights Center (PRC) is seeking an energetic, creative, organized, and passionate public interest-oriented individual to serve as our Communications and Program Associate. This person will oversee PRC’s communications activities and help organize policy, legal, and fundraising activities. PRC is a 46-year-old consumer organization that works to protect and promote the retirement income security of workers, retirees, and their families.  PRC is a mission-driven organization where there’s room to grow and learn and have fun in the process.

The Communications and Program Associate will work with PRC’s Executive Director, Legal Director, and Chief Operating Officer to:

Oversee PRC’s communications activities, including:

  • Managing our dynamic website and posting blogs, fact sheets, media releases and other content
  • Writing and disseminating PRC’s regular newsletter, as well as managing our Twitter and Facebook accounts, and developing strategies to expand our e-mail audience
  • Contacting reporters to inform them about key policy and legal developments and activities
  • Developing publicity material for PRC, including a new brochure and a media packet for reporters

Assist with logistics planning and scheduling including:

  • Helping to plan office events, managing office deadlines and keeping projects on track
  • Participating in the planning and implementation of PRC’s annual fundraising event and other legal and policy team programs and activities
  • Assisting the legal program as needed with outreach and assistance to individuals seeking legal help
  • Provide additional administrative support as needed

The Communications and Program Associate should be flexible and adaptable to work in a small, nonprofit with an informal, friendly work environment and hard-working, team-oriented, highly committed staff.


  • Bachelor’s Degree with preferably at least three years of communications and administrative experience.
  • Experience with website maintenance, familiarity with WordPress or similar CMS a plus
  • Strong writing and communication skills with an outgoing personality
  • Organized with the ability to manage several projects and deadlines at once
  • A creative self-starter who can work well independently but also take direction and work as part of a team
  • Open-mindedness and a desire to learn about retirement income issues and help people
  • A good sense of humor and a positive can-do attitude a must!

The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $60,000 and will be commensurate with experience.  We provide employer-paid health insurance, disability, and retirement benefits.

Position is remote at this time; candidates in the DC area preferred (to facilitate return to in-office work).
