In addition to speaking English and regular 401(k) jargon, are you an expert about tax exempt entities and retirement plans?  Do you know when to say “non-profit” and when to say “tax-exempt”? Do you love to discuss all the ways a charter school can be structured (not-for-profit, for profit, governmental, or some combination thereof) and what it means for their retirement plan?  Do you have strong feelings about whether a not-for-profit should have a 401(k) plan or 403(b)?  Can you explain the difference between a “steeple” church and a Qualified Church Controlled Organization?  Do you want to know the difference?  If these are the type of questions that intrigue you, maybe you should join our Tax Exempt team.

Overview of the Position:

Nova 401(k) Associates is looking to fill fully remote Tax Exempt Account Manager positions. If you are located near one of our physical offices (currently Dallas, Houston and Scottsdale), the position will allow you to work partly from home and partly from our office. We will provide you with a home office set-up including a computer and a phone. Nova has been offering remote work for over 10 years. We offer a great work experience for our remote employees!

We are in the process of transforming our Account Manager positions to focus more on client/advisor service. Our Account Manager positions are supported by a strong implementation group, plan document team, special projects team, loan and distribution department, and plan termination team. Our Account Managers are organized into teams that work toward firm goals. Each Team Leader schedules weekly calls to discuss upcoming deadlines and developments within Nova and the industry.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Maintain and build client and advisor relationships with a high client retention rate
  • Maintain a caseload of about 150 401(k), 403(b), 457, etc. plans
  • Manage and prioritize workload towards weekly goals in a results-oriented team environment
  • Exemplify superior client service and ability to consult with clients regarding plan operation and design
  • Work with other Nova departments, record-keepers and advisors to ensure a great client experience
  • Perform work according to Nova policies and procedures
  • Pro-actively communicate with clients and investment advisors about new industry developments
  • Review and deliver required non-discrimination testing and government forms, including Form 5500

About You:

We prefer a strong working knowledge of plans sponsored by tax-exempt entities including governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, churches, schools, and others, as well as experience consulting with these entities.  However, we are willing to consider someone with 401(k) experience who is enthusiastic about learning about plans sponsored by tax exempt entities.

  • Five or more years of 401(k) and/or 403(b)/457 plan administration experience
  • Excellent knowledge of preparing, reviewing, and delivering required non-discrimination testing and government forms, including Form 5500
  • Working knowledge of employers who can establish a 403(b) plan such as public schools, Code Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations or churches a plus
  • Experience consulting on charter schools or identifying tax exempt organizations a plus
  • QKA and/or TGPC credential a plus
  • Four year college degree a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • High level of critical thinking
