Job Description


Assist and provide a range of legal support and administration to lawyers engaged in a variety of legal matters on behalf of the IAM National Pension Fund, the IAM National 401(k) Fund and the National IAM Benefit Fund (collectively the “Funds”).


  • Under attorney supervision, coordinate the Funds’ Compliance Monitoring Program, including required Notices and Disclosures, as well as coordinating work to build and maintain Compliance Monitoring databases and files.
  • Under attorney supervision, coordinate with Employer Services, Education and Accounting regarding the status of withdrawn employers and withdrawal liability cases.
  • Review and finalize the payment arrangements with withdrawn employers, assist attorneys in negotiating payment plans when necessary, and update the account information, when appropriate.
  • Prepare updates/input for new referrals/organize and properly close matters where appropriate, etc.
  • Timely prepare, create and provide collection status reports to General Counsel.
  • Update and maintain withdrawal and withdrawal liability records.
  • Log requests for determination of domestic relations orders and medical child support orders, determine ERISA qualification of domestic relations orders and medical child support orders and review escrows for such orders.
  • Coordinate administrative functions of the Department’s collections programs on behalf of the Funds, including assisting lawyers with review and distribution of letters to delinquent employers.
  • Perform legal and factual research under attorney supervision.
  • Perform records research.
  • Identify relevant judicial decisions, statutes, legal articles, codes and other pertinent material, under attorney supervision.
  • Organize and analyze information.
    • Cross-check and validate information.
  • Prepare written reports.
  • Review legal documents including contracts, confidentiality/non-disclosure agreements, plan amendments, plan policies and procedures, reports including financial reports, performance metrics and key performance indicators, lease agreements, briefs, pleadings, appeals, and legal memoranda, under attorney supervision.
  • Prepare and maintain data necessary for compliance (DOL, IRS) filings and compliance filing review.
  • Help prepare legal arguments, applications, declarations and motions, under attorney supervision.
  • Prepare correspondence.
  • Check and edit legal forms and documents for accuracy.
  • Organize and track matter and case files.
  • Review and monitor new and updated laws and regulations.
  • Co-ordinate Legal Services Department activities with other department employees, such as subpoena response or delivery.
  • Investigate, assist in preparing and track responses to agency complaints, including preparation and maintenance of subpoena and discovery responses.
  • Monitor benefits and tax regulations and statutes, including ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code to ensure compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Associate degree, with such degrees in paralegal studies, or paralegal certification preferred or;
  • At least two years of experience working as a paralegal in an employee benefits practice or equivalent experience working directly in a welfare benefit fund office.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $65,000.00 per year
