JPC’s offices are located in Boulder, Colorado and the San Francisco Bay Area.

We are searching for a Plan Document Specialist, who will help prepare and maintain all Plan Documents, Amendments, Summary Plan Descriptions, Participant Notices, and Client Contracts for all a group of current and new clients (including both new plans and takeover plans).  Our Plan Documents team works closely with our Operations, Participant / Client support, and Plan Consultant Team.  This is a great opportunity for a motivated candidate who wants to support all sides of a growing financial services firm. This individual must have strong project management skills, a high level of comfort with technology, and the personality to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment by being adaptable, creative, proactive, and eager to grow in this position as it evolves with the growth of the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Have a detailed understanding and ability to interpret sophisticated plan documents and code provisions, including a familiarity with prototype and volume submitter documents
  • Prepare and maintain all Plan Documents for new retirement Plans and conversion retirement Plans, including Plan Amendments, Restatements, Summary Plan Descriptions, and Trust Custodial Account Documents
  • Prepare Short Amendments for existing clients, as requested (including researching plan and summary plan description language changes)
  • Enter Plan Provisions into respective Recordkeeping, Investment Tracking, and Enrollment Material Databases
  • Prepare and review all 404(a)5 and 408(b)2 regulatory disclosures
  • Successfully manage and execute plan document restatements from start to finish
  • Review, write and help develop internal policies, procedures, documents and forms required by internal departments or plan sponsors for various administrative function
  • Provide effective verbal and written communications in a clear, concise, and informative manner.
  • Maintain up-to date knowledge of present legislation and proposed legislative changes with regard to ERISA law through self-study and company-sponsored training sessions
  • Assist IRS and DOL auditors with respect to all Plan Document requests, if the plan is subject to an IRS or DOL audit

QUALIFICATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Between 5 - 10 years of 401(k) plan administration experience
  • Exceptional knowledge of general defined contributions plan rules and regulations with focus on 401(k) plans
  • Advanced knowledge of ERISA, focus on pension plans
  • Ability to interpret basic plan documents, plan adoption agreements and amendments
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
  • ASPPA and/or NIPA credentials
  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical, organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong initiative, integrity, self-motivation, and results orientation
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience with Relius Administration and Document software.
  • Strong MS Office experience, especially Excel and Word
  • College degree

COVID-19 considerations:  all employees are currently working remote.  When it is safe to return to the workplace, it is preferred that candidate can commute to Boulder, CO or San Rafael, CA office at least two days a week.  However, for the right candidate, we are open to hiring someone who will work remote full-time and then travel to our California or Colorado office several times a year for in-person meetings with our team.
