Benefits Specialist
The Air Line Pilots Association, International, the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest
non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world (representing over 59,000 pilots at 35 U.S. and Canadian airlines) seeks an experienced Benefits Specialist for our office in Tysons (McLean), Virginia. The Benefits Specialist
works collaboratively with the Association's Lead Benefits Specialist, Benefits Attorneys, and other members of the Retirement & Insurance (R&I) team in providing assistance to pilot governing bodies on all subjects that affect their employee
benefits program(s), particularly group life, health, dental, disability, and Section 125 plans. Under minimal supervision, they provide technical support on benefit issues to the R&I staff and pilot representatives; draft and review summary plan
descriptions for retirement and welfare plans; draft and review benefit-related communications for Master Executive Council (MEC) publications; review pilot benefit plans and policies for compliance with applicable legal requirements; prepare quarterly
R&I newsletters for distribution; assist in the preparation of retirement, insurance, and welfare benefit proposals for negotiations; participate in the training of R&I pilot committee members by preparing and giving presentations at benefits
training events and various R&I seminars; provide technical assistance to Labor Relations Counsels; may act as an in-house consultant on benefit-related matters; and, conduct ERISA and tax code research. The successful candidate will have a thorough
understanding of employee benefits, current trends and legislation, and will be expected to remain current in these areas.
Local, national, and international travel: 10 - 20%.
