The primary role of a Retirement Plan Account Manager is to deliver on our service commitment using independent judgment to support consultants in providing these services.

Position is based in our Portland, OR office; telecommuting available temporarily due to COVID-19.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

Account Management: A Retirement Plan Account Manager (AM) will act as point of contact for firm’s plan consultants and clients. An AM has an assigned book of clients to perform account management duties ensuring client satisfaction by establishing realistic client expectations, seeking client input, and meeting service commitments in a professional and punctual manner.  An AM has direct client contact and works at the direction of the assigned Consultant(s) to each TPG client. An AM performs a variety of technical assignments and administrative duties in the areas of:  

  • Service:  Serve as the daily contact for assigned clients and is responsible to ensure TPG meets our service commitments by following up on all concerns and problems, providing a timely resolution for our clients. This would include:
    • Monitoring ERISA compliance on existing plans
    • Proactively facilitating regulatory and compliance support to clients
    • Assisting consultants with plan implementation and administration
    • Maintaining communication with clients for scheduling meetings, following up on requests and providing information as requested from client
    • Providing insight and recommendations on employee communication campaigns
    • Ensuring client deliverables are peer reviewed prior to delivery
    • Working with consultants to prepare presentations and materials for scheduled meetings (employee educations, investment review, plan demographics, etc.)
    • Maintaining strong client relationships
    • Maintaining strong vendor relationships
    • Managing the bid solicitation process
    • Facilitating communication and collaborations with consultants
    • Conducting plan review for prospective clients as needed
    • Preparing and following up fee proposals for prospective clients
    • Preparing meeting agenda, materials, documenting and retaining meeting minutes
  • Employee Meetings:  Organize and/or attend, educational meetings by:
    • Helping develop educational workshops, seminars, panel discussions, etc. for clients and prospects
    • Ability to present education materials to plan participants in a group or one on one setting
    • Drafting employee communications for HR managers and/or committee members
  • Special Projects:  Lead or assist with special projects as they occur.


  • Internal Referrals: refer current and prospective clients to other TPG divisions.
  • Designations & Education: Work with Team Lead and Manager to vet opportunities for pursuing professional designation and/or participating in related professional organization as well as attending seminars, workshops and conferences as needed for professional growth
  • Travel: Local daytime travel and some travel requiring overnight stays
  • Vendor Relations:  Maintain a good, professional working relationship, be familiar with the products and processes and be acquainted with the service representatives
  • Team Collaboration: Share subject matter expertise.
  • Systems:  Proficient and knowledgeable about our internal systems and how to use them as required in our Procedures Manual

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Additional requirements include:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred, or a High School diploma or its equivalent.
  • Experience:  At least two years of professional experience in the field of pension and retirement.
  • Professional Certificates/Designations/Licenses:  Series 65 license required.
  • Computer Skills:  Proficiency in use of personal computers, including data entry, word processing, and spread sheet applications. Demonstrated expertise with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint software and specific industry software.
  • Travel:  Ability to travel locally with some overnight travel.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate orally and in writing with others to explain complex issues accurately, receive and interpret complex information and respond appropriately.  Professional level of written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Physical Effort: Ability to perform  sedentary work, fingering, repetitive small motor activity, grasping, stooping, reaching, standing, lifting objects less than 10lbs frequently, climbing occasionally.
