Duties

Summary

This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO), Consumer Support Group (CSG).

As a Supervisory Health Insurance Specialist, GS-0107-15, you will serve as the Deputy Director of the Consumer Support Group (CSG) providing leadership and advice on consumer-related private health insurance issues.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation and execution of the policy, operational, and business requirements related to programs within CSG's functional responsibility, including special projects, budget, and procurement.
  • Review or manage the review, of policies and procedures developed by other components to provide consistency and technical assistance, and to assess the impact on programs and policies within CSG's functional responsibility.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates, give advice and provide counsel or instructions to employees on both work and administrative matters and conduct formal performance appraisals through agency performance management process.

Qualifications

ALL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT.

In order to qualify for the GS-15, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: 1) Interviewing candidates for positions within the organization/unit, and recommending appointment, promotion, or reassignment to such positions; 2) Making decisions and recommendations to improve existing health insurance programs or Affordable Care Act (ACA) related programs; 3) Providing technical guidance on budget formulation, tracking, and management; AND 4) Managing work activities of employees or teams to ensure that program operational goals are met.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
