Sr. Benefit Plans Specialist

Wespath Benefits and Investments, recognized as a 2017-2019 Chicago’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For® and a 2018 National Best and Brightest Companies to Work For®, has an opportunity for a Sr. Benefit Plans Specialist in our Benefit Plans department.

The Sr. Benefit Plans Specialist supports the team managing the health benefit plans (HealthFlex), well-being programs, and welfare plans that Wespath offers our plan sponsors. In general, the focus of the specialist’s daily responsibilities will be approximately 80% health plan / 10% well-being / 10% welfare; with potential for these allocations to shift over time to remain aligned with Benefit Plans department needs.

More specifically, the Sr. Benefit Plans Specialist will have the opportunity to:

  • Track plan and program metrics to ensure ongoing achievement of expected outcomes and alignment with vision of the health plan and well-being programs.  Metrics would include plan and program financials, including trends in claim experience, loss ratios, overall reserve levels, benefits utilization, program participation, and return on investment.
  • Participate in the development and tracking of the annual HealthFlex plan budget in conjunction with department management, including monitoring of actual results to budget on monthly basis.
  • Manage plan, program, or vendor related requests and activities such as eligibility verification, plan sponsor reporting, process and procedure documentation, etc.; including related timeline/project plan development and oversight, and solution of complex issues.
  • Develop and maintain plan and program related processes and procedures for department.
  • Complete validation and reconciliation initiatives, including integration of data lists, assessment of data for eligibility, distribution, participation lists, ad hoc data reconciliations, etc.
  • Support the marketing of plan and programs to prospective plan sponsors; including assisting with the coordination of HealthFlex proposals / RFP responses, and assisting new plan sponsors with the adoption and implementation of those plans/programs.
  • Collaborate with plan actuarial consultants in the annual rate setting process, including gathering necessary data and disseminating and communicating results to external customers.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of plan administration support, annual election / open enrollment processing, or training / marketing in a health, welfare, benefits or insurance environment.

Preferred Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of wellness programs / initiatives and impact on plan design and financials.
  • Motivated, focused, and self-managing — able to work on short-term and long-term initiatives with moderate day-to-day management and oversight.
  • Familiarity with budgeting and financial reporting.
