Overview 

Bertelsmann, Inc. is looking for an experienced and dedicated Benefits Analyst to join our team in New York. We are a fast growing global organization that offers a great opportunity for someone who is looking to grow and further their career in benefits. The Benefits Analyst is part of the Corporate Benefits Department, which has the responsibility of developing, negotiating, and customizing all health, welfare, and retirement plans for each of Bertelsmann’s subsidiary companies within the United States. These include Penguin Random House, BMG, FremantleMedia, Arvato, Bertelsmann Printing Group, Relias, Alliant International University, and other groups, including any new acquisitions.

The Benefits Analyst will be primarily responsible for supporting the Corporate Benefits team with the day-to-day operations of the company’s retirement and health & welfare programs, including assisting with escalated member issues and data review for mandatory operational compliance. This employee will also process invoices and allocate the costs amongst the Bertelsmann operating companies, including managing the quarterly reconciliations to ensure proper internal accounting. Under the guidance of the Director of Corporate Benefits, the Benefits Analyst would also partner with the business, vendors, and consultants on key projects, such as non-discrimination testing and implementation of new policies and procedures. Additionally, the Benefits Analyst provides excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders by providing analytical and technical support. The Benefits Analyst also assists with the preparation of compliance filings and researching member issues under the direction of the team.

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Facilitates the transfer of reports and information to contacts at the operating companies, vendors, and consultants
  • Investigates discrepancies in non-routine situations and provides recommendations for solutions
  • Ensures timeliness and accuracy of required Federal and State government filings
  • Assists with compliance with regulations, such as 5500s, Summary Plan Descriptions, and Non-Discrimination Testing
  • Supports ongoing analytics and administration of benefit plans for strategic planning and for M&A analysis
  • Serves as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators on billing and invoice issues
  • Allocates benefits costs and reconciles internal company billing quarterly
  • Assist with vendor management, policy development, and ad hoc projects under supervision of members of the Corporate Benefits Department
  • Keeps abreast of regulatory changes and benefits trends and analyze their implications
  • Documents and maintains administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes
  • Coordinates conferences and meetings
  • Provides customer service support to internal and external customers
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs

Qualifications and Education Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience required; CEBS certification preferred
  • 2-4 years of work experience in Employee Benefits, Compensation, or Finance required; Retirement benefits, brokerage, or consulting experience preferred
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to work independently or as a team player in a fast paced and decentralized environment
  • Must be detail oriented, highly organized, and have excellent judgment
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables) and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and client service orientation with focus on high quality service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Must have a solid working knowledge of all required government filings (e.g. 5500, ERISA, IRS and DOL requirements, etc.)
