Retirement Plans Business Development Officer

Position Summary

Position is a primary driver of growth for a Regional Community Bank with $900 million in retirement assets under care.  Responsibility will be to drive future growth by meeting the needs of prospects.  Prospects will be discovered via internal and external COI network.

Essential Requirements

  • Identifies, prospects and cultivates RPS prospects and attains appointments with qualified prospects.
  • Develops relationships with prospects resulting in them becoming customers.
  • Develops cross-marketing opportunities with centers of influence, both within 1st Source and externally.
  • Answers questions from all levels of customer companies relating to the administration of employee benefit accounts.  Develops close working relationships with decision makers.
  • Attends weekly sales meetings and provide support to the sales process, while also referring business to all other areas of the bank.
  • Sells effectively by establishing relationships with clients, finding their needs and offering appropriate solutions for client value, assisting them to understand the features and benefits.
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with many new business sources and provides assistance in reviewing existing plans and proactively suggesting worthwhile alternatives to satisfy customer needs.
  • Actively calls on businesses to solicit new client accounts and identify additional client financial needs (90% of time is spent calling on clients outside of the office).
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Responsible for the completion of all compliance training related to the position.
  • Understands all applicable laws and regulations that apply to the position and complies with the requirements.

Experience / Skills

  • Five (5) or more years of related experience preferred.
  • Experience with 401k, 403b, Cash Balance, and Defined Benefits Plans required.
  • Accounting systems knowledge (e.g., Metavante, Relius, etc.) preferred.
  • Management skills and experience preferred.
  • Customer service and sales oriented.
  • Working knowledge of ERISA and related regulations.
  • Working knowledge of investments.
  • Good PC skills--proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel essential.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with all different departments and business entities.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Effective public speaking.


  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred. CEBS, CRSP or ASPPA license required.
