Manager for Balance Forward Department

Summary:

Manages day to day operations of the Balance Forward Department and supervises Administrators and their assistants. Ensures Balance Forward personnel comply with all  cyber security policies and procedures including distribution processes.

As manager of BF the candidate will be responsbile for the administration of defined contribution balance forward plans,and serves as the primary point of contact for interaction with clients, consultants and others as it relates to:

  • Regulatory and legal compliance
  • Annual reporting and evaluation
  • Adherence to plan provisions and disclosures to plan participants
  • Reporting and government filiings

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages Balance Forward staff
  • Collaborates with General Counsel on new laws or changes to existing laws, client notifications, plan changes or form changes required, and ensures that information is disseminated to Balance Forward team
  • Liaison with Manager Daily Valuation Compliance to make sure that client reports, forms, or other documents and materials that the clients receive are consistent across departments
  • Provides technical support and guidance to the Balance Forward team regarding any issues that may arise (software, hardware, legal, reporting, etc.)
  • Prepares PPA Quarterly Benefit Statements
  • Prepares Annual 404(a)(5) Disclosures
  • Oversee plan tracking to ensure that all work is completed on a timely basis
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining 1099R supplies each year
  • Assigns new plans to administrators
  • Set-up and maintains data in  FT Williams (5500 and 1099R software)
  • Ascertain that data and financial requests are issued, and ensure that information is received within prescribed guidelines
  • Data scrubbing (including update and review of census and eligibility)
  • Compute and determine employer contributions in accordance with Plan provisions and instruct clients on further actions, if needed
  • Calculate minimum required distribution amounts
  • Prepare all calculations related to and required for any terminated plans

Perform annual compliance testing:

  • Perform all required compliance testing:  401(a)(4), 401(k), 401(m), 410(b), 415, 416
  • Determine correction methods for 401k 
  • Correspond with client giving specific instructions on any actions client needs to take with respect to results of compliance testing
  • Prepare government forms and other required filings:
  • Prepare IRS required forms and schedules:  5500, 1099-R, 1096, 945, etc.
  • Prepare IRS Form 8955-SSA as needed
  • Prepare IRS Form 5330 as needed
  • Prepare IRS and/ or other government mandated forms or filings for terminated plans

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Business Administration – Management Information Systems
  • Proficiency with Relius Sungard systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office Word and Excel
  • Strong computer technical skills

Certification/ Licensure

ASPPA designations:

  • QKA, Qualified 401(k) Administrator
