The Qualified Plans Specialist II administers Solo 401(k) plans, including calculating contributions, monitoring IRC 415 limits, providing annual reports, and developing client relationships. Serves as a liaison between the Third-Party Administrator (TPA) and the client. Handles customer service inquiries with multiple participant plans and troubleshoots operational issues with plan design and annual regulatory compliance requirements. Serves as a subject matter expert to all team members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responds to inquiries from third party administrator and plan sponsors regarding: account balances; trade information; all aspects of participant distributions; tax reporting questions and alternative investment questions; payroll processing; participant loan administration program
  • Builds relationships with clients to ensure continued plan retention
  • Facilitates transfers and rollovers to and from custodians and processes distributions
  • Reviews and answers Form 1099-R tax reporting and tax coding inquiries
  • Ensures accurate and timely communication with the plan administrator on participant enrollment, annual compliance testing, IRS regulatory filings, annual participant notifications, and payroll and census processing
  • Prepares Forms 5500 EZ and 5500 SF, plan conversions, plan amendments, and plan document restatements

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensures data accuracy and reconciles accounts
  • Coordinates all aspects of plan conversions and de-conversions
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a financial services operation’s environment
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with 401(k) plans

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) preferred

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft office
  • Working knowledge of: DOL/IRs rules and regulations; 1099-R tax reporting and coding; participant distributions; mutual fund share classes; daily automated mutual fund trading platforms and recordkeeping systems (Relius, SGN, Schwab, Matrix); plan provisions and eligibility; mutual funds and other (401k) investments
