Plan Solutions Consultant Sr

OneAmerica

in Indianapolis IN

At OneAmerica®, we deliver on our promises when customers need us most. We believe the best way to serve our customers is to know that every individual, employee, family and business we work with has unique personal and financial goals. We keep our promises so we can help them achieve their goals and realize their definition of financial success.

The Plan Solutions Consultant is a retirement plan subject matter expert, having in-depth knowledge of ERISA, the relevant portions of the internal Revenue Code, the retirement plan “industry,” and OneAmerica policies and practices. Plan Solutions Consultants respond to routine and complex questions from internal and external clients, including performing appropriate research and preparing memoranda and other documents to support the conclusions reached and guidance given. Consultants also perform “billable” services in reviewing “DRO’s,” consulting on and preparing “VCP” filings or “SCP” documentation, and other client requested services.

The Consultant gets involved in projects to determine the best policy, process, and practice to ensure OneAmerica is serving its clients consistently, in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and in furtherance of OneAmerica’s business objectives. When things go wrong, the Consultant is a leader in fashioning the correction, and where appropriate in implementing the solution. The Consultant “owns” each issue they are involved with, and have a responsibility to ensure that the guidance given is fully understood, appropriate business decisions are made by the business leaders, and that those decisions are implemented timely and completely.

The Plan Solutions Consultant is a natural communicator and educator, using each client interaction as an opportunity to educate and guide others to an appropriate solution. When needed, the Consultant develops and conducts formal training of colleagues to enhance their understanding of ERISA, the tax code, the retirement plan industry, and to obtain and maintain various industry recognized licenses and certifications. Fundamentally, every interaction with internal clients should be conducted in a way to increase their colleagues’ proficiency in performing their responsibilities as an associate with OneAmerica. Being a leader in divisional and enterprise projects or initiatives as a subject matter expert is also expected.

As a senior member of the team, the Plan Solutions Consultant is a mentor to other team members, giving them the benefit of their experience and guiding them through the resolution of complex issues. Being able to work collaboratively within the team and across the organization is a must. The Consultant may also assume certain managerial responsibilities as assigned by the Director, and is expected to be a role model and leader within the team and the organization. The Consultant also learns from the experiences of other members of the team – especially about current policies and processes, and appropriately raises suggestions for improvement within the team and the division.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years ERISA experience, preferably in a client facing role
  • J.D., CPA or other relevant professional license preferred (LL.M. a plus)
  • Industry designations (ASPPA, CEBS or equivalent) a plus
  • Superb communications skills – including the ability to “translate” complex ERISA or tax code concepts into understandable terms
  • A high level of business acumen and the ability to make – or guide others to make – appropriate decisions
  • Able to prioritize work appropriately and to manage multiple high priority issues simultaneously
  • Exemplary research skills and the ability to fashion appropriate solutions when faced with issues, errors, and other problems
  • Ability to lead collaboratively, and to guide persuasively, consistent with stated business objectives
