Senior Retirement Benefits Analyst

Location: 2727 N Central Ave, Phoenix, Arizona 85004 United States of America

Under the direction of the Manager of Retirement Benefits, the Senior Retirement Benefits Analyst administers the day-to-day aspects of the retirement plan sponsored by AMERCO, with the primary responsibility for the 401(k) plan and ESOP to remain compliant per ERISA and IRS guidance.

This is a unique career opportunity because all recordkeeping, accounting and financial reporting are handled in-house.

Position responsibilities:

  • Perform balancing and reconciliation of record keeping systems and trust statements.
  • Use Excel skills to validate large data sets with vlookup and other formulas to conduct research and analyses.
  • Use Excel VBA to automate processes.
  • Prepare tax information letters and other required documents to Plan Participants as required by law or policy.
  • Prepare tax forms, such as Form 5500 and related schedules.
  • Perform annual compliance testing including ADP / ACP, 401(a)(4), 410(b), Top Heavy, 402(g), 415, ESOP Allocation, etc.
  • Conduct legal research for IRS, DOL and Retirement Benefits related subjects.
  • Perform cross functional tasks in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Provide manual entry, analyses, calculations and reports for stakeholders.
  • Answer participant questions relative to retirement programs.
  • Effectively administer assigned programs, perform both complex and routine administrative works with speed and accuracy.
  • Review work completed by other analysts for accuracy, completeness and quality.

Key Requirements:

  • Advanced experience in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access)
  • Proficient in Excel VBA
  • Knowledge of Balance Forward valuations and experience with plan conversions.
  • 5 - 10 years of work experience in Retirement Benefits
  • Finance, mathematic or business related bachelor’s degree
  • Attention to detail and superior organization skills
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Travel Required: May be up to 1-2 weeks out of the year, in the United States and/or Canada
  • Can-do attitude, able to endure stress and meet strict deadlines

Preferred Requirements:

  • Certification of QKA, QPA, CPC and/or CEBS
  • Proficient in SQL and Workday
  • Experience in filing Form 5500 in a self-administrated Retirement Benefit work environment
