Reports to the
Health Benefits Manager and works under the direction and guidance of the unit manager, health/benefits consultants and lead health benefit analysts. Works independently and on teams exercising cooperation, initiative and a commitment to achieving quality
in work products and meeting assignment and project deadlines. Contributes own thinking to enhance the value and quality of work products. Must possess excellent communication (oral/written) and interpersonal skills with ability to interact effectively
with a diverse audience. Must have strong project management skills and work ethics.
Possesses and/or develops and applies competent knowledge of and skills in core health benefits and managed care services
and products as described under the analyst role.
Works with and analyzes complex data to include demography, claims experience, financial performance, cost-effectiveness, budget projections, renewal analysis, health delivery system and/or other
benefits related issues.
Reviews client contracts and benefit agreements with insurance carriers for accuracy and compliance Issues request for proposals and analyzes responses to assist clients in selecting a financially viable option that will
deliver high quality benefits to their participants.
Prepares reports and memoranda communicating results of analysis to consultants and clients.
Interacts effectively at senior levels with health benefits staff, consultants and clients on
more complex matters.
Client contact on routine matters and attends client meetings as needed.
Acts as liaison between client and third party vendors regarding contract, service and coverage issues.
Reviews work completed by health
benefit analysts for accuracy, completeness and quality and, may supervise analysts on the completion of tasks.
Undergraduate degree with academic training in a quantitative discipline (e.g.,
Mathematics, Statistics, etc.) and analytical skills plus; 3-4 years of health benefits, managed care, and/or actuarial/underwriting experience.
May be an entry point for individuals with a graduate level academic degree and/or training in relevant
health disciplines (e.g., health administration, public health, etc.).
Communication skills (oral/written) – competent level.
Sitting for and passing CEBS exams and/or pursuing other relevant accreditation (e.g., HIAA)
