Pension Reconciliation Specialist

Summary

Pension Reconciliation Specialist is an experienced level, non-management position in the Reconciliation Department.  In order to be placed in this position, you must have the knowledge and capabilities of performing the duties and responsibilities of the Pension Processor position and Client Services Representative position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coding Control sheets and UDFs with up-to-date new plan information and surrender information
  • Import and Export data in and out of Relius
  • Rebuilding takeover plans
  • Complete processes for plan surrenders and spinoffs
  • Processing year end census corrections
  • Process corrective distributions due to ADP/ACP test failures
  • Prepare and reconcile year end valuations and asset statements on a source level per participant
  • Communicate reconciling items with clients both verbally and via email
  • Interpret year-end non-discrimination testing
  • Prepare instructional correspondence to the investment company
  • Communicate all reconciling items with plan auditors
  • Extra time and effort during testing and 5500 filing deadlines
  • Must become knowledgeable of relevant aspects of pension trust accounting and law
  • Complete familiarity with all company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time by the Reconciliation Department Manager

Supervisory Functions

  • No supervisory functions

Education / Experience

  • Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or
  • Two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to solve practical problems where only limited standardization exists 

Language skills

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations 
  • Ability to write business and interoffice correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, co-workers, clients, and plan participants

Mathematical skills

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions, percentages, etc., and to apply to practical situations 
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra  

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • There is no initial requirement for this position 
  • Completion of the RPF-1 and RPF-2 (or equivalent) courses through the American Society of Pension Actuaries
  • Newly hired experienced Pension Reconciliation Specialists that have not previously completed the courses must complete them within 1 year of date of hire to maintain the position

Other Qualifications

  • Must have strong financial, accounting and spreadsheet computer skills 
  • Must be able to work effectively in a stressful situation and meet tight deadlines 
  • Work requires strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to multitask
