Employee Benefits - Retirement Plans Manager

The ideal candidate will have experience in the management of ERISA compliance / recordkeeping services for employee stock ownership plans (ESOP), retirement plans, and profit sharing plans. 

Key responsibilities include: reviewing compliance and administrative work, review of government filings (5500, 1099-R), consulting with clients on retirement plan issues including plan designs, plan defect issues, and solutions. 


  • Oversee, delegate and review plan administration duties including: census processing, trust accounting, transaction processing and other tasks related to benefit plan compliance and recordkeeping
  • Review and manage deadlines for 5500 forms and related schedules
  • Review and perform annual compliance testing including: cross-testing, ADP/ACP discrimination testing, top heavy testing, and limitations testing
  • Proactively coordinate, plan, and schedule work flow for effective engagement management
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to gather information and resolve client matters
  • Possess technical familiarity with plan rules regarding distributions, loans and hardships
  • Remain current with relevant laws and regulations
  • Perform ERISA research relating to employee benefit plans and payroll issues
  • Respond to client questions or inquiries
  • Initiate and manage client communications
  • Demonstrate competency with necessary software
  • Enter time, prepare billing invoices, update schedule, record CRM activities, and enter CPE credit completion in a timely manner


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field and 6+ years of applicable experience in defined contribution plan administration
  • Strong technical knowledge of ERISA, DOL, and IRS regulations pertaining to employee benefit plans
  • Experience managing preparation of forms 5500 and 1099-R
  • Experience with compliance testing including: cross-testing, ADP / ACP nondiscrimination testing, top heavy testing, and limitation testing
  • Experience training, developing and coaching staff
  • Ability to understand and articulate plan document language
  • Ability to review, analyze and articulate complex benefit information
  • Customer service focus and solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving, project management, and multi-tasking skills
  • In-depth understanding of Employee Benefits trends and issues
  • Ability to creatively solve problems and analyze client data
  • Ability to effectively delegate, supervise, and review work of less experienced staff
  • Ability to be flexible to changing circumstances and client needs
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in various accounting and other software, including Microsoft Office Suite


  • ESOP experience, but we are willing to train the right individual
  • Attainment of professional certification (QKA, QPA, ERPA, CEBS)
  • Experience with Relius Administration, Plan Documents and/or Government Forms softwares
