We are a well-established TPA firm in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area that provides ERISA administration services for qualified retirement plans.  We are looking for an experienced Senior Plan Consultant position working directly with clients, providing advanced consulting services and client management for a large caseload of qualified retirement plans to ensure excellent client service and profitable results.


  • Manage client relationships including annual client review with recommendations to maximize tax advantages or other benefits for client
  • High level review of plan administration prior to finalization and delivery to clients
  • Focus on goals to meet standard turnaround times, maintain client satisfaction and retention, and achieve profitability
  • Work with plan analysts and consultants to assist with and/or review complicated contribution calculations, review failed compliance testing, assist with challenging client communications
  • Analyze provisions in plan documents to ensure compliance with IRS and DOL regulations
  • Evaluate takeover plans, identify compliance issues, and coordinate transition of data; communicate effectively with clients
  • Assist clients in establishing policies and procedures related to communicating retirement benefits to their employees
  • Ability to perform all aspects of administration including contribution calculations and IRS forms/annual report preparation
  • Ensure current internal policies and procedures are consistently utilized and followed
  • Provide leadership, mentor team members, and assist in developing their knowledge and skills
  • Inform Plan Consultant Manager and consultants of workflow status on a regular basis
  • Research and resolve technical issues
  • Support change, company policies and procedures in a positive and motivational manner
  • Assist in special projects as needed; perform other related tasks as required
  • Meet or exceed all quality, productivity, and turnaround goals
  • May be required to work extra hours during peak periods/or as necessary

Knowledge and Skills preferred:

  • Competence in all areas of qualified plan administration commensurate with a Senior Pension Consultant position
  • Knowledge of IRS corrective procedures, deadlines, and related penalties
  • Thorough understanding of a plan’s administrative cycle, including IRS and DOL filing requirements and deadlines
  • Thorough understanding of the current laws and regulations governing qualified retirement plans
  • Thorough understanding of policies and procedures required for timely and compliant plan administration
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and orally, with a wide range of external and internal contacts in a professional manner
  • Ability to encourage and mentor Plan Consultants/Analysts in a positive manner to achieve enhanced performance
  • Maintain positive attitude when addressing questions and problems
  • Ability to work under pressure of deadlines and demanding clients while remaining calm
  • Work independently
  • Good organizational skills and ability to set priorities consistent with service standards
  • Adjust priorities with changes in the annual business cycle of pension administration
  • Ability to promote a positive and professional working environment
  • Ability to offer creative solutions to difficult challenges
  • Analytical and critical-thinking skills

  • Good judgment and decision-making
  • Software Skills:  Excel, Word, Outlook, Adobe, ASC

Education / Experience required:

Experience requiring critical thinking, analysis, detail orientation and customer service.        ASPPA, NIPA or ERPA certification required.
