Daily Valuation / Balance Forward Retirement Plan Administrator

Summary   - This position is also availailable for telecommuting -

As Administrator for defined contribution daily valuation plans, responsible for annual compliance tests and IRS 5500 preparation and timely submission.  Also DV administrator serves as the primary point of contact for interaction with clients, consultants and others as it relates to:

  • Regulatory and legal compliance
  • Annual reporting and valuation
  • Adherence to Plan provisions and disclosures to plan participants
  • Reporting and government filings

Administrator for defined contribution (DC) and defined benefit (DB) balance forward plans. Responsible for the day to day administration of both DC and DB plans. Serves as the primary point of contact for interaction with clients, consultants and others as it relates to:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

As Daily valuation Retirement Plan Administrator for DC plans:

  • Update plan tracking to ensure projects are completed on a timely basis for assigned caseload
  • Field daily phone calls/ email requests from clients, and consultants and respond in a timely and thorough fashion
  • Problem solving / research
  • Coordination with consultants on plan design and management of needed amendments

Perform annual quality assurance review:

  • Review Plan documents for plan provision changes, assure consistency with Saleslogix, update as needed.
  • Determine all Legal Documents are signed and dated

Perform annual plan administration:

  • Ascertain that data is received within prescribed guidelines
  • Data scrubbing (including update and review of census and eligibility)
  • Compute and determine employer contributions in accordance with Plan provisions and instruct clients on further actions, if needed
  • Prepare all calculations related to and required for any terminated plans

Perform annual compliance testing:

  • Perform all required compliance testing:  401(a)(4), 401(k), 401(m), 410(b), 415, 416
  • Determine correction methods for 410b, 401k or 401m testing failures, and 401a4 issues, if applicable
  • Correspond with client giving specific instructions on any actions client needs to take with respect to results of compliance testing

Prepare government forms and other required filings:

  • Reconcile trust to posted employee/ employer contributions, distributions, and trust gains / losses producing plan financials
  • Prepare IRS required forms and schedules:  IRS 5500, related schedules, and SAR
  • As applicable, prepare audit package and coordinate with client and auditor on sample selections and reconciling questions
  • Prepare IRS Form 8955-SSA as needed
  • Prepare IRS Form 5330 as needed
  • Prepare IRS and/ or other government mandated forms or filings for terminated plans

Other DV Administrator responsibilities:

  • Review quarterly participant billing counts prior to submission to accounting
  • Extract data for creation of annual participant GAP reports; review created report for quality control
  • Review plan highlights for enrollment kits
  • Review projected eligibility reports, auto enrollment reports and online contribution report processing for use by client

For DC and DB plans:

Prepare annual plan reports:

  • Ascertain that data and financial requests are issued, and ensure that information is received within prescribed guidelines
  • Data scrubbing (including update and review of census and eligibility)
  • Post employee contributions, distributions, allocate forfeitures, and trust gains / losses
  • Compute and determine employer contributions in accordance with Plan provisions and instruct clients on further actions, if needed
  • Calculate minimum required distribution amounts
  • Prepare all calculations related to and required for any terminated plans

For DB plans only:

  • Maintain accrued benefits reports and schedules for all participants
  • Perform termination and benefit calculations for lump sum distribution purposes
  • Calculate death benefits where necessary
  • Calculate annual maximum benefits and other limitations imposed by IRS
  • Prepare deterministic projections as needed
  • Works closely with the Chief Actuarial Officer to ensure plan compliance

For Cash balance plans:

  • Responsible for running new plan designs based on client need and/or employee demographics

Other duties or projects as may be assigned from time to time

Supervisory Responsibilities:  None

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must:

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor degree in accounting, finance or other business-related field
  • Over 5 years of experience as retirement plan administrator
  • Proficiency with Relius Sungard systems
  • Proficiency in FT Williams
  • Proficiency in DATAIR
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office Word and Excel
  • Strong computer technical skills

ASPPA designations:

  • QKA, Qualified 401(k) Administrator (preferred, or obtainable)
  • QPA

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from executives and managers, employees, customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management and employees, whether in group or individual settings.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts and to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions.
