Director, Employee Benefit Services

HANYS Benefit Services (HBS), a subsidiary of the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS), is seeking a full-time Director. HANYS is a member-focused, statewide association, and a Capital Region Top Employer*, dedicated to advancing the health of individuals and communities by providing leadership, representation, and service to health providers and systems across the entire continuum of care. HBS provides marketplace solutions to employers in the areas of insurance, investments, and consulting related to group employee benefit plans.

Key Responsibilities:

This position reports to the President, HBS and is primarily responsible for directing the Employee Benefit Services Division to meet overall strategic financial and client service goals by:

  • Managing all aspects of the client relationship (Administrator level or higher) for the purposes of business retention, revenue growth and overall client satisfaction.
  • Providing oversight and assisting in the sales and marketing of all insured HBS employee benefit products and services with a specific focus on group health plans.
  • Managing employee benefit staff and contributing to the development of short- and long-range plans for the growth and profitability of the firm.


  • Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of five (5) years of directly related benefits management experience; Associate’s degree with at least seven (7) years of comparable experience may be considered
  • New York State Life and Health License required or must be obtained three (3) months post-hire
  • Flexibility to travel up to four (4) times/week with occasional overnights as required
  • Ability to manage staff
  • Specific experience in a benefits broker and/or medical insurance carrier environment a plus
