Retirement Plan Services Compliance Officer

POSITION SUMMARY:  Oversee all ongoing activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to ERISA policies. Responsible for remaining current on all IRS and DOL regulations pertaining to retirement plan administration. Provide training, technical assistance and actively support development of new products and services.  Ideally the individual will be located in Dubuque, Iowa; however, we will entertain other bank locations for the ideal candidate.

PRIMARY & ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Keep abreast of and communicate new legislation, Technical Advice Memos, Field Assistance Bulletins and pertinent litigation. 
  • Interpret and review contracts, procedures and communications to ensure compliance.
  • Responsible for explaining plan provisions, new regulations, error correction programs and different types of fiduciary products to the team and to clients. 
  • Research regulatory and legal questions as they arise.
  • Work with the team to promote cooperation, respect and concern for clients’ needs as well as fostering camaraderie within team.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in qualified retirement plans with direct emphasis on 401(k) and defined contribution plans. This entails a strong knowledge of plan design, compliance and testing, ERISA and industry standards
  • JD preferred.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify problems and recommend appropriate follow-up action.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills, self-motivated and entrepreneurial.
  • Excellent Organizational, multi-task and follow through skills.
  • Polished and professional presentation.
  • Teamwork and interpersonal skills to work on cross organizational initiatives.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.

PREFERRED OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:

Professional designations, such as QPFC, QKA, APA or relevant industry designations (If not already held, it is an expectation that employee will obtain either a QPFC or QKA within the first 24 months of hire.)
