Principal Pension and Retirement Analyst

The University of California Retirement System (UCRS) is currently conducting a recruitment for a Principal Pension and Retirement Analyst to join the Retirement Policy group. The incumbent will conduct research and analysis regarding policy issues for all of the UCRS plans (a defined benefit plan and three defined contribution plans) and will draft new policies and policy revisions to ensure that the plans are administered properly and are in compliance with various requirements. A primary focus of this position will be reviewing the UCRS legal plan documents and regulations, drafting needed revisions, obtaining legal review and management approval, and communicating and publishing the final version.


The Principal Pension and Retirement Analyst will also prepare agenda items for the UCRS Advisory Board and the Retirement Savings Program Advisory Committee, and may be the subject matter expert who presents the agenda item. She or he will also draft agenda items for meetings of the Regents, the Faculty Welfare Committee Task Force on Investment and Retirement, and various other groups and committees. Incumbent will participate in work groups to address policy and operational issues and may be the work group leader. She or he will serve as a primary resource to Retirement Administration Service Center, campus benefits offices, Academic Personnel, and HR management in resolving issues regarding UCRS policy interpretation and implementation.

Required qualifications include knowledge and experience designing, developing and/or implementing defined benefit and/or defined contribution retirement plans. The successful candidate will also have strong research and analytical skills as well as effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts in a clear and concise manner. Strongly preferred are candidates with experience reviewing and drafting updates to legal plan documents and regulations and knowledge of the UCRS plans and/ or UC Health and Welfare plans and the UC organization and our policies and procedures.
