Retirement Specialist

Nationwide Retirement Solutions is recruiting for one Deferred Compensation Education Consultants that are exclusively dedicated to the City of Seattle Voluntary Deferred Compensation Plan and its employees. The candidate will need to have industry experience and the ability to communicate in both one-on-one and group presentation settings.

The primary role of the Deferred Compensation Education Consultant is to provide education about the Plan to employees, participants, and beneficiaries in a group meeting setting, including a consultative manner as a one-on-one, both offsite and onsite at the Seattle Municipal Tower in downtown Seattle. The Consultant will also be required to travel periodically to other locations in Skagit County and Nehalem, and must have a clean driving record in the State of Washington.

Nationwide Retirement Solutions requires Series 6, 63, 65 and State Life and Health Insurance licenses. As part of additional development long-term, the candidate will also be required to obtain the CRC.

Additionally, the selected candidate will attend a one-week new employee training in Columbus for training on topics such as sales process, product/plan knowledge, technology, compliance, marketing and presentation skills.  Will also participate in on-going training sessions through their Program Director and through company-offered training, as well as City of Seattle culture training.  

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Provide education about the City’s Voluntary Deferred Compensation Plan to a diverse and dynamic workforce through one-on-one and/or group meeting settings. In coordination with City Plan Staff, develop, manage, and retain relationships with City departments in ensuring education strategies are effective. Also, develop strategies to enhance retirement readiness for employees that have had limited access to the Plan. Must have a rich understanding of the public sector business to apply knowledge of 457, and impact of political and economic landscapes to the business.
  • To help drive sales growth by providing retirement planning and education and delivering service to public sector employees. Develop, manage, and retain relationships with public sector employers. Have regular retirement education and planning interactions with public sector employees. Identify prospective new small case employer clients, and take actions to acquire new small cases. Must have a rich understanding of the public sector business to apply knowledge of 457, additional financial products and services, and impact of political and economic landscapes to the business.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:  Reports to Retirement Services Program Director.  No direct reports.

CORE JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop productive relationships with key public sector employer entity contacts within assigned territory.
  2. Schedules and conducts one-on-one and group seminars for potential and existing participants within an assigned territory.
  3. Serve as a financial resource to existing and potential participants by providing counseling and guidance on the features and benefits of defined contribution retirement savings plans which drive sales growth.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education:   Undergraduate studies in related field (insurance, business, marketing) preferred.
  • License/Certification/Designation: Series 6 license, and life and health licenses required. Series 63 and 65 may be necessary.
  • Experience:  Three years of related experience in financial, sales or educational services functions.
  • Knowledge: Comprehension of annuity and investment products with the ability to effectively communicate product information. Understanding of the competitive landscape a plus.
  • Skills/Competencies:  Excellent sales, communication and presentation skills required. Demonstrated ability to maintain a territory of clients. Must be able to work independently with little supervision.

Staffing Exceptions to the above minimum job requirements must be approved by the: hiring manager’s leader and HRBP.

JOB CONDITIONS:

  • Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt)
  • Working Conditions: Travel within assigned territory required.  May be required to work from home. Must have a valid drivers license with satisfactory driving record in accordance with the standards stated in the Company’s Fleet Manual.
