JOB TITLE: Agency Board Actuary

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION TO BE FILLED: Develops mathematical and statistical methodology for the analysis of contribution structures and benefits relating to the
eight (8) public defined benefit plans administered by the Consolidated Public Retirement Board. Prepares Actuarial/fiscal notes for legislative proposals affecting pensions. Advises the Board as well as legislative committees on funding, structure
methodology and actuarial basis for said plans. Prepares annual valuation reports for the Deputy Sheriff’s, Emergency Medical Services and Municipal Police and Fire Plans. The valuation reports for the other five (5) plans are outsourced.
Prepares experience studies on all Plans. Reports to the CPRB Board of Trustees.
The actuarially required contributions for these eight public plans are consistently made and the plans have been recognized nationally as leaders in funding
Oversees staff of one Actuarial Analyst. Performs other actuarial functions for proper administration of the plans. Completes other actuarial studies as necessary.
EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS: A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in actuarial science OR in accounting, statistics or mathematics, and Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries, Society of Actuaries, or American Society of Pension
Actuaries (MAAA’s) is required. Prefer Fellowship designation. Must have at least 7 years of actuarial experience with pension plans, preferably governmental plans.
SPECIAL ABILITIES: Ability to communicate
actuarial findings in a “user friendly” manner to the CPRB Executive Director, staff, Board and the West Virginia Legislature. Experience with Proval a plus. Must be willing to relocate to West Virginia.
