Senior Technical Research Consultant

Job Description Summary
Responsible for technical research and analysis as a result of new legislation, regulatory developments, or customer inquiries. The incumbent must be well versed in (1) the legal/compliance requirements (including ERISA) for qualified plans, 403(b) plans, 457 plans, corporate nonqualified deferred compensation (NQDC) plans, IRAs, and Section 72 Annuities; and (2) Transamerica's policies and procedures in order to support in-house staff (Harrison, Cedar Rapids, St. Petersburg and Regional Offices). This position also provides guidance and support to external clients.
Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Independently research and analyze regulatory guidance from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Department of Labor (DOL) and new pension legislation. Interface with the Legal Department, as necessary.
  • Provide technical consulting services to Regional Offices (Client Executives and Sales staff), operation areas, Transamerica's management team, intermediaries and external clients. Draft client and in-house technical communications. Tailor such communications to fit customer's needs.
  • Support Plan Services (both existing and new business) and serve as technical consultant to plan consultants (including review of plan amendments and restatements).
  • Support other technical areas as needed (i.e. Compliance Testing, Reporting/Disclosure Unit, Retirement Counseling Group, etc.).
  • Provide technical support to Client Integration Team for new business cases.
  • Support new product development.
  • Develop and deliver technical training programs for Transamerica employees.
  • Maintain high level of awareness of ongoing developments in the pension industry./li>
  • Participate in special technical projects/task forces.
  • Ability to review and prepare plan analysis for new clients.
  • Other duties as assigned based on divisional needs.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety rules.
  • Exhibits regular, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Advanced knowledge of general legal requirements for qualified plans, 403(b) plans, 457 plans, Corporate NQDC plans, IRAs and Section 72 annuities and ERISA requirements.
  • 6+ years of related pension experience.
  • Ability to independently research, analyze and interpret IRS and DOL regulations and pension legislation.
  • Advanced communication skills (verbal, written and listening) for customer contact, technical writing and technical training.
  • Strong problem resolution skills and ability to work with others, with an emphasis on analysis and formulation and documentation of sound recommendations.
  • Strong organizational/time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Team skills to contribute to the success of department goals and objectives.

  • Office environment.

Job and compensation levels depend upon an applicant's qualifications including the extent of his/her relevant experience and other job related factors and will be determined by hiring supervisors/managers and HR.
