Retirement Plan Consultant
Sentry Insurance

We are seeking a self-motivated professional and technical compliance expert to join our premier 401(k) benefits team. Our consultants work together with our sales and service teams and clients to provide guidance and assist in the interpretation,
implementation, modification, design and drafting of qualified defined contribution plans.
What You’ll Do
You will act as a technical resource for 401(k) client and our 401(k) sales and service teams. Additionally,
you’ll:
- Identify, research, and interpret federal legislation and regulations impacting 401(k) and other private sector defined contribution retirement plans.
- Provide suggestions, interpretations, clarifications, explanations,
modifications, design and drafting of more complex 401(k) and other qualified retirement plans to 401(k) associates and external customers and review and analyze incoming new business/takeover plans for onboarding team.
- Provide updates regarding
IRS/DOL regulatory guidance for internal and external Sentry associates as well as customer for legislative and regulatory provisions impacting 401(k) plans.
- Provide input and technical support and clarity for field and client communications or
marketing materials as requested.
- Assist with the design and certain technical training for 401(k) associates and may provide technical training for field associates as requested.
- Coordinate and develop special projects as assigned and
serve as a Project Manager for projects related to amendments and restatements and new products or services as assigned.
- Maintain the qualified status of Sentry’s pre-approved plan documents and related documents.
- Consult with
operational teams regarding Form 5500 and related reports, tax withholding, and reporting responsibilities for distributions from qualified retirement plans.
- Review and suggest updates to administrative forms and procedures for compliance with
legal and regulatory standards.
- Provide advanced testing and compliance services for 401(k) plans as requested.
What it Takes
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in 401(k) administration and
compliance of defined contribution plans
- 5+ years of strong knowledge and familiarity with qualified retirement plans, funding vehicles, trust, and insurance contacts
- Some knowledge of NASD, SEC, and FINRA requirements as they affect
qualified retirement plans
- ASPPA, QKA, or higher designation required
- Demonstrated analytical ability and process skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
