About the Role: We are looking for a dedicated and highly organized Relationship Manager to manage a variety of responsibilities in our 401(k) plan
administration team. This role requires an individual who is detail-oriented, client-focused, and capable of balancing multiple tasks efficiently. As the Relationship Manager, you’ll work directly with employers, plan participants, and advisors to
provide top-tier service and ensure the smooth operation of retirement plans. Your primary responsibilities will include client communication, plan valuations, compliance, troubleshooting, accounting, and preparing Form 5500s, among other critical
tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Communicate directly with employers, plan participants, and advisors to maintain a high level of customer service and ensure timely receipt of plan information (valuations, compliance,
etc.).
- Analyze and review census data to determine eligibility, vesting, HCE/key employee status, and more.
- Troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies, research client and advisor inquiries.
- Perform trust accounting for plans with
multiple brokerage accounts and reconcile year-end accounting across various recordkeeper platforms.
- Handle payroll uploads to various recordkeepers and perform compliance/discrimination testing.
- Calculate contributions, including employer
match, pro-rata/integrated/new comparability profit sharing.
- Prepare Form 5500s and related schedules, ensuring timely and accurate filings.
- Compile annual audit packages, including reconciling Plan Assets and preparing financial
reports.
- Lead and oversee various projects within the team, utilizing discretion to prioritize tasks, allocating resources, and adjusting timelines to ensure successful project completion.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with
a high degree of discretion and professionalism.
- Review plan design and consult with clients on recommendations for changes that significantly impact plan administration.
- Promote a positive, proactive attitude within MVP and in interactions
with plan sponsors, participants, and advisors.
- Adhere to company service standards and fulfill tasks as requested by firm management.
Qualifications:
- Positive attitude with client-centric focus and
dedication to superior service.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word), Adobe, and QuickBooks.
- Experience with various recordkeepers such as John Hancock, American Funds,
Ascensus, Empower, Voya, TransAmerica, etc.
- Ability to perform and understand trust accounting, including TPA plans and brokerage statements.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles, math formulas, balancing/reconciliations, and
daily trades.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism when handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities; ability to prioritize tasks
efficiently.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with plan sponsors, participants, and financial advisors.
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and collaborate effectively as part of a
team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Math, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in 401(k) plan administration.
- QKA/QPA designation(s) or equivalent highly preferred.
