Payroll Manager 

Summary… 

July Business Services (JULY) offers a unique opportunity to manage client relationships and payroll processing for an external book of business while also managing internal payroll for the JULY team. Initially, time will be largely spent learning the external client base, their payroll systems, and their individual payroll processes while also processing JULY’s internal payroll. Over time, the expectation is for this position to become JULY’s internal HRIS subject matter expert (SME) to support JULY beyond payroll processing (data integrity, system efficiencies, reporting, organizational hierarchy, user access, compliance, etc.). This position reports directly to JULY’s Chief Accounting Officer. 

The Gig… 

External Payroll Services Responsibilities 

  • Lead JULY’s Payroll Services function for approximately 175 clients 
  • Manage a dedicated book of business for Payroll Services clients across various states 
  • Supervise one direct report and their dedicated book of business, providing backup assistance when needed 
  • Process Payroll Services client payrolls in two systems (MPAY/Payentry & UKG) on varied schedules (semimonthly, biweekly, weekly, etc.)  
  • Generate and analyze MS Excel reports and provide insights pertaining to business needs 
  • Streamline and document client payroll procedures and/or client FAQs 
  • Communicate regulatory updates impacting client payroll 
  • Partner with JULY’s Sales and Payroll Integration Teams on potential new payroll business (RFPs, system demos, Q&A, etc.) and new retirement plan client implementations 
  • Lead tax deadline processes and troubleshoot related issues 
  • Build and enhance client relationships contributing significantly to client satisfaction 

Internal HR Team Responsibilities 

  • Process timely and compliant semimonthly payrolls for approximately 250 employees across 30 states 
  • Enhance and streamline the utilization of JULY’s HRIS (Paycom) to optimize data driven decision making 
  • Generate and analyze HRIS reports and provide insights pertaining to business needs 
  • Respond timely and accurately to HRIS and payroll related inquiries submitted via HRIS and HR mailbox 
  • Research federal/state/local employment regulations to ensure legally compliant payroll actions 
  • Handle government reporting requirements and requests 
  • Document HRIS and general payroll procedures 

Lead by example, exhibiting the JULY’s core values in all interactions, projects, and tasks 

Ad hoc tasks (ranging from routine requests to complex situations) 

Our Needs… 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience 
  • 5+ years in payroll management 
  • 3+ years processing payroll in Paycom 
  • Solid MS Excel skills including data analysis and summarization 
  • Strong knowledge of other payroll software and/or HRIS 
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills 
  • Proactive, resourceful, solution seeker needing minimal oversight  
  • Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy 
  • Clear and professional verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills 
  • Builder of rapport who works well with all levels of professionals
