Director of UAW Employee Benefits & Pensions Department

The Director of Employee Benefits and Pensions Department is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing various defined contribution, defined benefit and other ERISA plans sponsored by the International. The Retirement
Plan Administrator reports to the Office of the President and provides administration of all plans sponsored by the International Union, UAW. This is considered an in-office role.
Key
Responsibilities
Retirement Plan Administration – Serves as the Primary contact for actuary, auditor, State Street Retiree Services, JPMorgan Chase Bank and Fidelity.
Responsible for daily and annual
administration of:
- Staff Severance Plan – ERISA Plan
- Staff Retirement Income Plan – ERISA Plan
- OPEIU Employees Pension and Severance Plan – ERISA Plan
- Black Lake Employees’ Pension Plan –
ERISA Plan
- OPEIU 401k Plan – ERISA Plan
- Cash Balance Plan – ERISA Plan
- Employees SUB Plan – ERISA Plan
- Troubled Workers Plan
- Local Union Officers Plan
- Officer Incentive Payments
- UAW
Master Pension Trust – ERISA Plan
Oversee Clerical responsible for OPEIU and Staff pensions, Cash Balance and SUB plans:
- Process monthly pension payrolls for OPEIU and Staff
- Process bi-weekly SUB payroll
- Process
Local Union Officers annual distributions
- Process monthly Officer Incentive Payments
- Process Troubled Workers Plan annual accounting and distributions
- Tax deposits on all payrolls
- Process Cash Balance Plan
distributions
- Process applications for new retirees and survivors
- Calculation of all pension benefits, annual re-determinations and age 62 adjustments.
- Process monthly pension payroll and participant distributions for Black Lake
Employees’ Pension Plan and Cash Balance Plan through State Street Retiree Services.
- Retiree/Employee contact for any plan questions or issues.
- Assist Chair in preparation and administration of meetings for the Staff RIP Joint Board,
OPEIU Pension Joint Board, and Staff Severance Joint Board.
- Review and approve all plan documents requiring signature of the President.
- Provide employee education seminars.
- Assist legal counsel in plan document interpretation, plan
amendments and IRS compliance.
- Assist Accounting with Fidelity contribution and census files and resolve issues.
- Review and implement QDRO’s.
- Prepare and distribute annual Summary Annual Reports and Annual Funding
Notices.
Auto Insurance Administration – Primary contact for Sterling and Hartford.
- Employee contact for any insurance questions or issues.
- Review monthly insurance claim reports.
- Review
and approve all auto insurance documents requiring signature of the President.
- Regularly review status of driver licenses for all Staff employees who have elected auto insurance benefit.
- Oversee Clerical responsible for auto
insurance.
Employee Benefits Administration – Oversee Assistant Director of Employee Benefits and Pensions in administration of various employee benefits.
Other Responsibilities:
- Approve payment of invoices and premiums for auto, pension, employee benefits and department expenses.
- Retiree/Employee contact for any questions or issues with Legal Services and car purchase discount
program.
- Represent department on any matters that are brought before the IEB for discussion and approval.
- Primary contact for URHCT and URMBT and responsible for benefit adjustments and funding.
- Assist leadership in union
negotiations with Staff Council, OPEIU and SPFPA.
- Special projects and duties as assigned by the President.
- Member of SUB Joint Board

Knowledge, Experience and Skills
- Must have work experience in
retirement plan administration at the TPA or corporate level.
- Must have a basic understanding of investments.
- Ability to manage complex tasks, streamline operations and improve productivity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft
Office Suite (Excel, Power Point, Word, Teams).
- Must be able to perform job requirements with high a level of accuracy in all tasks with little supervision.
- Ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and
written communication skills with the ability to present complex information effectively to top management at board meetings.
- Proficient with data analysis, critical thinking, and problem solving.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting,
finance or related field required.
