Associate/Entry Level Plan Administrator

Karel-Gordon & Associates is looking for an entry level, Associate Retirement Plan Administrator.

We are a well-established actuarial, consulting and retirement plan administration firm located in Deerfield, IL. As we continue our steady growth, we are looking for the right people to join our team.

We offer all team members the ability to work remotely or the ability to come into our Deerfield, IL office if they are local.

Desired skills and experience:

• At least 1 year of experience working with qualified retirement plans (401(k) Plans, Profit Sharing Plans, Cash Balance and/or DB Plans)
• At least 1 year of experience working in a role that involves a high volume of detailed transactions (loan processing, payroll processing, etc.)
• Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, clients, advisors and accountants 
• Ability to ask pertinent/relevant questions to clarify and advance understanding on complex topics
• Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines on various tasks and projects
• Experience that demonstrates strong organizational, analytical and detail-oriented skills
• Desire to learn and grow within a firm
• Experience composing professional emails and communicating professionally and respectfully on the phone
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Ability to handle duties with confidentiality and extreme professionalism
• Proficiency in Excel, Adobe, Word and Outlook
• Experience with Datair, PensionPal software and PenChecks helpful, but not required

What you’ll do:

• Review requests for termination distributions, loans, qualified domestic relations orders (QDROs), in-service and hardship withdrawals
• Read and interpret Plan Documents
• Calculate vesting percentages and update plans on recordkeeping platforms
• Calculate Required Minimum Distribution amounts
• Calculate maximum allowable loan amounts and prepare loan documents
• Prepare distribution election forms
• Prepare IRS Forms 1099-R and 945
• Prepare Annual Reports for clients, including Forms 5500, SAR, 8955, and related schedules
• Communicate daily with Plan Sponsors, Recordkeepers, Financial Advisors, and Accountants
