Purpose of Position

The 3(16) Consultant position at MAP Retirement will supervise all aspects of the Fiduciary Services, PEP, and HR Support services provided by MAP. This successful individual will also work directly with other internal management, team members, Plan Sponsors and Financial Advisors to ensure that all fiduciary responsibilities are fulfilled. This role will oversee all functions related to Fiduciary Services, PEP, and HR Support for an assigned caseload of plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for Plan Sponsors and Financial Advisors regarding 3(16) responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Retirement Plan Consultants to ensure 3(16) requirements are consistently met
  • Create and manage the 3(16) annual letter, ensuring that all 3(16) services have been completed
  • Act as an authorized signer for distributions and loans as required
  • Actively manage projects and tasks using the PensionPro workflow system
  • Monitor and track upcoming eligibility calculations, fund change notices, annual notice distribution, and other items to ensure deadlines are met
  • Distribute materials and required notices to newly eligible participants
  • Oversee payroll submission, payroll monitoring, and loan monitoring
  • Upload year-end annual census data
  • Represent MAP Retirement on 3(16) client calls and meetings
  • Share relevant industry knowledge with 3(16) Administrators and other staff members
  • Collaborate with Management to develop, outline and refine documented process across the organization

Competencies Required

  • Prompt follow-up on open items with clients or internal team members.
  • Demonstrates excellent attendance, punctuality, and time management.
  • Conveys a professional and positive attitude while interacting with clients and internal team members.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build rapport remotely while working productively with limited in-person interaction.

Education and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in the retirement industry required; 5 years of experience preferred.
  • Associate’s degree in Business or Accounting preferred.
  • Experience with workflow systems such as PensionPro, Pension Pal, or similar.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; ability to navigate web-based programs.

  • Ability to build rapport with others remotely while working productively with limited in-person interaction.
  • Designate a quiet, well-lit workspace with a fast internet connection, free of distractions.
  • Be online and available during designated business hours in your local time zone.
  • Familiarity with using Microsoft Teams or other virtual meeting applications to collaborate with colleagues via video and chat.
  • Experience with file-storage and file-sharing tools such as Microsoft SharePoint and Citrix ShareFile.
