Position Title: Deconversion Retirement Plan Consultant

Position Summary

Responsible for the final administration of terminating retirement plans. Maintains plan records and ensures compliance with federal regulations. Creates and maintains positive relationships with internal Retirement Plan Consultants (RPCs), clients, financial advisors, and other service professionals. Must be able to work in a team environment to support clients and other EGPS departments. Deconversion Consultants will be evaluated on their ability to process plan terminations as smoothly and efficiently as possible. This role is responsible for complete oversight of the plan termination process and must possess strong relationship skills to provide excellent client service. This role may also involve managing workloads and providing information directly to other Plan Termination/Deconversion employees.


  • Ensure timely review and delivery of all items related to the termination and liquidation of client retirement plans.
  • Primary focus is for Profit Sharing and 401(k) plans with ability to extend into Defined Benefit/Cash Balance plans depending on experience or interest.
  • After plan termination engagement letter is signed, coordinate transition from RPC to carry out all remaining steps as needed, including document amendment, annual compliance testing, final contribution calculations, participant distributions, and governmental forms filings.
  • Proactively communicates with clients and project manages all the necessary plan termination steps.
  • Demonstrate an excellent level of proactive client focus and teamwork with clients, advisors, CPAs, and internal partners.
  • Responsible for protecting, securing, and handling of all confidential data transmitted to/from EGPS.
  • Become familiar with and help develop and maintain the Plan Termination Team processes and reporting procedures.
  • Develop technical skills to become a subject matter expert in regulatory and industry practices specifically related to plan terminations.
  • Communicate significant issues and exceptions to an appropriate higher level of authority within EGPS promptly (i.e., coordination with the Plan Termination Team, interacting with Compliance and Accounting, and escalation to executive leadership as needed).
  • Self-motivated to track upcoming deadlines and follow up with clients consistently for data or additional information.
  • Actively participate with the rest of the Plan Termination Team to develop and communicate and train on EGPS policy and procedures to ensure a uniform plan termination process for all clients as much as possible.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 6+ years of related experience in DC plan administration.
  • Some DB experience is ideal but not required.
  • Industry-related credentials (ASPPA or NIPA) preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products and systems.
  • Proven competency in reading and interpreting retirement plan documents with a solid understanding of related rules and regulations.
  • Effective collaboration, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills as well as attention to details.
