The Relationship Manager is a professional level position in the field of 401k administration working in a team environment. This position manages client relationships and handles the A-Z Administration in a TPA only environment involving multiple recordkeepers.  Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize and organize within a deadline driven industry. Project assignments will vary in complexity and based on firm need. This position offers the opportunity for advancement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate directly with employers, plan participants, and advisors to maintain a high level of customer service and obtain plan information for valuations, compliance, etc.
  • Receive and review census data; determine eligibility, vesting, HCE/key employee status, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze discrepancies and research client/advisor questions.
  • Perform trust accounting for plans with multiple brokerage accounts.
  • Reconcile plans on various recordkeeper platforms for year-end accounting.
  • Handle payroll uploads to various recordkeepers.
  • Perform compliance/discrimination testing.
  • Perform contribution calculations including but not limited to employer match calculations, pro-rata/integrated/new comparability profit sharing contributions.
  • Prepare Form 5500s and related schedules.
  • Compile annual audit packages for large plan filers including reconciling Plan Assets to custodial/trust statements and preparing financial reports.
  • Promote a positive and proactive attitude within MVP and with plan sponsors, participants, and advisors.
  • Work within a designated team to handle TPA caseload as well as traditional balance forward plans.
  • Fulfill tasks upon request by firm Management team.
  • Adhere to company service standards.

Qualifications

  • Positive attitude and client dedicated.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook and Word and other applications including Adobe, and QuickBooks.  SRT/ASC experience a plus.
  • Experience with various recordkeepers such as John Hancock, American Funds, Ascensus, Empower, Voya, TransAmerica, etc.
  • Ability to perform and understand trust accounting for both TPA plans as well as brokerage statements.
  • Understand basic accounting principles math, formulas, balancing/reconciliations, and daily trades.
  • Must have a high level of interpersonal skills and professionalism handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time.
  • Ability to collaborate with others and as a team.
  • Strong customer service skills, both written and verbal and ability to timely and effectively communicate with plan sponsors, plan participants and financial advisors.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to be self-motivated and independent.
  • Education in accounting, Finance, Math or similar area preferred plus 2+ years 401(k) plan administration experience. 
  • QKA/QPA designation(s) a plus, but not required.

Working conditions

May have responsibilities outside of the working day based on firm need.  Most time is spent in an indoor, controlled temperature environment.  This is a remote office position.  General office hours are Monday-Friday, 8a-5p ET.

Physical requirements

Sedentary to light duty position (approximately 0-20 lbs.), with extended periods of time sitting.  Primarily computer-based work with multiple monitors, keyboard, and mouse.  Ability to stand, as necessary.  Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop/kneel/crouch/crawl.  Vision abilities required by this position include close vision. Use of multiple communication methods including softphone, email, instant-messaging, and screen-sharing.  Repetitive tasks.
