At this TPA, we're seeking a Retirement Plan Consultant to play a pivotal role in the day-to-day administration of retirement plans. As the primary point of contact for our valued customers, you'll be responsible for establishing
strong client relationships and positioning yourself as the go-to expert for all things related to plan administration.
Your mission is to ensure efficient plan operation, client satisfaction, and long-term retention. This entails not only adhering
to the provisions outlined in each plan document but also mastering the intricate details buried within the legal plan documentation.
As a Retirement Plan Consultant, your duties encompass:
- Understanding the nuances within each plan's
provisions and navigating complex compliance testing requirements.
- Taking necessary corrective actions, which may include asset distribution, contributions, or plan document amendments, to ensure compliance.
- Prioritizing tasks to meet
compliance-based deadlines, such as annual census reporting, testing, and assisting clients with various regulatory requirements.
- Anticipating client needs, addressing concerns promptly, and applying your expertise to uphold compliance with plan
documentation, IRS and DOL guidance, and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Recognizing and fulfilling fiduciary duties required for plan administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of retirement plan
administration, serving as the single point of contact.
- Deliver top-notch customer service, resolving issues with minimal disruption to clients.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in a clear, concise, and informative
manner.
- Assist clients with initial and ongoing plan design and document support.
- Ensure clients meet IRS and Department of Labor deadlines for qualified retirement plans.
- Stay updated on current and proposed ERISA legislation
through self-study and company-sponsored training sessions.
- For Defined Benefit (DB) plans, coordinate actuarial valuation reports, participant statements, Annual Funding Notices, and AFTAP preparation.
- Review or conduct annual combined
plan testing for combo clients.
- Review benefit calculations and distribution paperwork.
- Prepare or review Form 5500 and collaborate with plan sponsors to ensure timely filing.
- For DB plans, prepare annual PBGC premium filings and
assist with termination filings.
- Assist auditors in case of an annual plan audit.
- Collaborate with IRS, DOL, and PBGC auditors under the Compliance Team's guidance when necessary.
- Ensure a smooth takeover process for new
clients, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to match prior valuations.
- If applicable, work with Enrolled Actuary or independently oversee activities for timely and accurate completion of a substantial client
portfolio.
- Reconcile plan assets by working with Recordkeeper data in various formats and systems.
- Perform annual compliance testing for assigned clients (e.g., 402(g), 415(c), 410(b), ADP/ACP, Plan Limits, Top Heavy, etc.).
- Prepare
and file IRS Forms (5500 series, 5330, 1099R, and related schedules).
- Calculate employer plan contributions using various allocation methods.
- Support retirement plan implementation, conversion, de-conversion, and termination
processes.
- Continuously seek process and service improvements, while maintaining client and plan data in line with administrative electronic protocols.
- Safeguard confidential data, ensuring its protection, security, and proper handling to
prevent unauthorized access or disclosure.
Experience, Skills, and Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of ERISA defined benefit and defined contribution experience in the retirement industry.
- Proficiency
in financial data analysis.
- Familiarity with Traditional Defined Benefit and Cash Balance Plans.
- Experience with ASC, ftwilliam, Relius, or Datair software and PensionPal or PensionPro.
- Strong skills in Word, Excel, and
Outlook.
- Exceptional written and oral communication abilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Keen attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage tasks in line with business operations, including ERISA
compliance matters.
