Benetech, Inc. is one of the nation's largest third-party administration firms (TPA), with a regional presence throughout the U.S. We have been providing TPA services for plan sponsors of defined contribution and defined benefit plans since 1974. We offer stability and an experienced team of retirement plan professionals and Actuaries.

We are currently seeking experienced candidates for a Retirement Plan Specialist position, to provide administration services and customer service to a caseload of qualified retirement plan clients. 

We are open to this position being 100% remote or in-office at any of the following locations: Irvine, CA; Sacramento, CA; Roseville, CA or Colorado Springs, CO, or a hybrid position, both remote and in-office.

Primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Serve as primary contact for plan sponsors and their financial advisors and CPAs on all aspects of plan administration.
  • Provide annual administration work for an assigned caseload of retirement plans
  • Provide QC review of co-worker’s client deliverables before they are sent to our internal compliance department for final approval
  • Review census data to determine employee eligibility, based on plan document provisions
  • Thorough understanding of coverage testing, highly compensated employee determination, top heavy determination and non-discrimination testing.
  • Trust Reconciliation.
  • Preparation of IRS Form 5500, annual PPA Notices, and summary of participant accounts, if applicable.
  • Calculation of vesting, for PPA Notices and participant distributions, based on document provisions and census information.
  • Populating tasks in internal programs to ensure work is performed timely and to track the stages of the annual administration cycle for each assigned plan/client
  • Daily population of call notes in our proprietary work management program
  • Manage clients’ expectations, recognize issues and assist in determining solutions.

Essential Skill Requirements:

Proven strong customer service skills including effective verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal communication,

  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving ability, with a proven ability to instill a strong sense of confidence with clients and their advisors.
  • Working knowledge of third party administration services, along with compliance and regulatory issues governing the operation and administration of Qualified Retirement Plans, as well as generally accepted practices and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, ability to manage time and priorities effectively in a fast based, deadline driven environment.
  • Proficiency with MS-Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and other PC applications.
  • Positive, professional demeanor.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting or remotely (if available). Work environment includes extended periods of sitting, with extensive work utilizing dual computer monitors, on proprietary software, Outlook and with PDF files. Physical requirements are limited to desk work using a keyboard and mouse and phone calls via a headset, as we work in a paperless environment.


We are seeking someone with at least 2+ years of experience working for a Third Party Administration firm (TPA), managing a caseload of qualified retirement plans (with less than 100 participants). 

ASPPA designation(s) a plus.  

Defined benefit (DB) plan and/or cash balance plan (with or without PBGC reporting requirements) experience is preferred; however, we will consider applicants with only defined contribution (DC) plan/401(k) experience, who are open to learning DB/Cash Balance Plan administration, as we service many clients who sponsor both a DC and DB plan.
