The role is 100% remote and open to ERISA Attorneys barred in any US jurisdiction. The successful candidate for Partner will embody the Firm’s uncompromising dedication to client responsiveness and the earnest desire to build long-term relationships with clients, while consistently providing the highest quality of legal representation. He or she will be a leader in helping to maintain the Firm’s culture of excellence within both remote and local teams, in line with the Firm’s mission, vision, and values. In addition, this person will demonstrate a spirit of collaboration that embraces a “One Firm” concept of shared effort and success.

The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with the other Partners, Lead ERISA Counsel, and Of Counsel attorneys. She or he will regularly interact with clients and prospective clients, mitigate risk through issue spotting and detailed analysis of complex ERISA issues translated into easy-to-comprehend language, and play a crucial role in the development of referral relationships (both existing and new). Additionally, the candidate will contribute to Firm growth initiatives through his or her dedication to business development work.

Consistent with Firm values, the evolution of the Partner’s duties and responsibilities will develop through discussion rather than dictation.  HBL requires a Partner who is committed to serving as the primary point of contact on a wide range of client matters, allowing the Managing Partner the opportunity to focus on other Firm initiatives including hiring and the maintenance of an overarching vision for the Firm. A client-relationship focus is a non-negotiable for an HBL ERISA Partner.

Requirements of the ERISA Partner

  • 1,650 to 1,900 annual billable hours and 400 annual hours of business development and marketing focus, depending on individual attorney work/life balance goals
  • Minimum of 15 years of ERISA/employee benefits legal compliance experience
  • Health and welfare experience a must
  • Ownership/leadership mentality with a growth mindset
  • Track record of long-term employment
  • Outstanding references
