Hicks Pension Services is a family owned Third Party Administration firm providing services since 1968. Our San Luis Obispo, California location is looking for an experienced Retirement Plan Administrator to join our team. We take a proactive service approach to retirement plan administration of 401(k), 403(b), defined benefit, and Cash Balance Plans in the small to mid-size plan market.

We’re looking for a positive, self-motivated individual that will be responsible for an assigned caseload of 401(k) Plans. Our administrators are the primary point of contact from census collection through the filing of the form 5500. Support staff handles participant distributions and document amendments/restatements. 

The principals of the company are very involved in the day to day operations and strive to support rather than micro-manage our administrator staff. We're excited to have another administrator join our growing team!

Job Function and Responsibilities: Plan administration for a book of clients with tasks including:

• Year-end valuations, trust accounting and preparation of form 5500 filings
• Contribution calculations and annual discrimination testing
• Collection of census data and determination of eligibility and plan participation
• Calculation and notification of required minimum distributions
• CPA audit support 
• Frequent and accurate communication with CPAs, advisors, and clients. 

Desired Experience and Skills:

• Advanced level of employer-sponsored retirement plan knowledge
• Comprehensive knowledge of the retirement plan industry and changing regulations
• Proven relationship management and time management
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate industry terminology and plan compliance concepts clearly to clients and partners, by email and phone
• Exceptional organization skills, strong attention to detail, and outstanding customer service skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel

Preferred Certifications:

• 4+ years of retirement plan administration experience
• Experience with Datair Pension Systems preferred
• Experience with Defined Benefit Plans not required
