Actuarial Analyst

Purpose of position

An Actuarial Analyst is responsible to assist in the administration of the small plan cash balance plan market. The primary focus will be on cash balance pension plans with less than 100 participants including plans that are combined for testing purposes with a defined contribution plan. You will be working closely with a team of senior actuarial analyst’s and enrolled actuaries in preparing actuarial valuation reports, benefit calculations, and annual government filings.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
  • Request, organize, and review participant data for reasonableness
  • Review the asset information for the plan and reconcile as necessary
  • Review the Plan document and establish plan specifications in our ASC valuation system
  • Run annual valuation using valuation software and review for reasonableness
  • Check valuation results and present to the senior actuarial analysts or actuary for discussion and review
  • Prepare benefit calculations for terminated and retiring participants
  • Prepare benefit certifications including calculation of all optional forms of payment
  • Monitor and prepare Required Minimum Distribution calculations
  • Draft government filings (Form 5500s, Schedule SB, PBGC premiums, 8955-SSA)
  • Annual regulatory compliance checks

Competencies Required

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication
  • Must be detailed and possess strong organizational skills
  • Time management focused adhering to deadlines and timelines
  • Proficient with numbers and basic calculations
  • Solutions oriented
  • Conveys a professional and positive attitude while interacting with vendors, clients, advisors and teammates
  • Prompt follow-up on open items with vendors, clients or internal team members
  • Ability to analyze the situation and provide solutions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

Education and Qualifications

  • College Degree required 
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Prior work experience in the defined benefit plan business is a plus
  • Ability to learn the ASC actuarial valuation system
  • Show an interest in taking professional examinations

Working Conditions

  • Position in a professional, smoke-free, team environment
  • Remote work is acceptable

Travel Requirements

  • Limited, not to exceed 10%.
