Wespath Benefits and Investments, recognized as one of “Chicago’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For®” in 2017-2020, has an opportunity for a Director – Retirement Benefits, to lead the strategic development and operational execution of products and services for retirement benefit plans, including leading the team that manages all aspects of retirement benefit plans (plan and program design, financials, communications, administrative and compliance policies and procedures), working with senior management, operational leadership, plan sponsors and other Wespath departments to maximize efficiency and engagement in all retirement benefit offerings.

More specifically, the Director - Retirement Benefits, will have the opportunity to

  • Lead the development and initiation of plan provisions, services and marketing strategies to realize the vision for retirement plans and services offered by the organization.
  • Write and/or edit participant and plan sponsor communications.
  • Develop and deliver presentations at Wespath events and meetings with large plan sponsors and other groups.
  • Lead organizational projects related to retirement plans as project sponsor and/or subject matter expert.  Partner with assigned project manager.
  • Help to set and oversee policies related to retirement plans for the organization.
  • Lead customer focused plan development utilizing available research, assessment of customer needs, and by conducting market analysis and research.
  • Manage the employees of the Retirement Services team and train and mentor junior Retirement Services staff.
  • Oversee the administration of retirement plans, including plan adoptions, rollover-ins, administrative forms design, retirement plan policies, and approval/denial of special requests.
  • Manage budget for retirement team within the Benefit Plans department.
  • Develop and monitor key metrics related to participants engagement in their retirement benefits and develop strategies to improve participant engagement.
  • Support Sr. Managing Director in developing strategies to cross-train, unify, and conduct business within the Benefit Plans Department with a customer-focused mindset.  

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 10 years of work experience in retirement consulting or operations environment
  • 5 years with management and senior level responsibility
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of retirement plan design, plan administration, and legislative requirements pertaining to retirement plans
  • Demonstrated experience working with both defined benefit and defined contribution plans
  • Experience presenting to external customers and senior leadership
  • Strong proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of actuarial principles, taxes, regulatory environment, compliance, not-for-profit organizations and church plans
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in business, marketing, management, or another related field
