Position Summary:

Operating within a team and also independently with little or no management oversight, incumbents provide analysis and options on qualified retirement plan issues. Cultivate and maintain a positive working relationship with PEO Clients, eg. plan sponsors, attorneys, accountants, and tax advisors. Provide Protected Benefit Reviews to ensure participating employers will not cause disqualification.  Make suggestions to clients on matters dealing with qualified plan arrangements. Understand new IRS/DOL regulations to identify business/client impacts. Work closely with Relationship Managers and Plans Sponsors consulting on potential plan amendments.

Additional responsibilities as time allows; Participate in regulatory projects as a SME to address system/process changes needed in response to legislative changes. Draft white papers, guides and regulatory alerts and/or tools and educational materials for distribution to Clients. Prepare legal documents, such as volume submitter plans and prototype plans, investment contracts, trust documents. Review plan documents.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with internal partners, advisors and plan sponsors to make recommendations on matters dealing with plan design, legislative changes, and plan correction options.
  • Helping plan sponsors find solutions that enable them to meet business objectives, such as redesigning the plan to reduce cost and/or enhancing plan design features.
  • Providing plan sponsor assistance with mergers and acquisitions.
  • Preparing plan amendments and restatements.
  • Working with PEO internal and external partners to review protected benefits and draft documents
  • Interpreting legal documents such as pre-approved plan documents, individually designed plans, investment contracts and trust documents.
  • Staying informed on retirement industry trends and legislation.

Skills and qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of defined contribution consulting experience.
  • Working knowledge of ERISA, IRS and DOL regulations.
  • Ability to work independently managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with plan sponsors, attorneys and advisors.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail.

Preferred qualifications

  • ASPPA designation preferred, but not required.
