SMS Retirement

We are a Third Party Administrator specializing in the consulting and administering of retirement plans for the small to mid-size plan market. We are looking for a Full-time Enrolled Actuary to work on Defined Benefit and Cash Balance plans.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage a book of business
  • Review and certify actuarial valuation reports
  • Calculate minimum required contribution, maximum deductible and recommended contribution for the DB or CB plan
  • Prepare or review IRS Forms 5500 (including Schedule SB) and PBGC Forms;
  • Calculate required minimum distributions
  • Review or perform, as needed, the annual testing for plans, including Top Heavy, 410(b), 415, 401(a)(4) and 404 deductibility (combined plans where applicable)
  • Review distribution paperwork based upon plan document provisions
  • Prepare or review Plan Termination submissions as applicable (i.e., PBGC, IRS)
  • Prepare or review amendments and plan documents
  • Review reconciled trust accounts to plan accounts
  • Support sales effort through technical support and creation of illustrations

Experience, Skills, Knowledge Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years+ experience in the retirement plan industry
  • Enrolled Actuary designation or near enrollment
  • Experience with small and mid-size DB and Cash Balance plans; experience with 401(k) and profit sharing plans desirable
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Demonstrated expertise with MS Office applications and experience with ASC software is a plus
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize, manage tasks and meet deadlines in connection with business operations
  • Excellent client relationship skills
  • Team orientated
